Cameos wouldn't make sense in this page, sorry! I had to recolor this blasted comic thrice! The power kept going out…on one side of the basement! And then my dad shut the computer off without saving my stuff first because it was making noises. Argh! Save first!
Plus I guess it helped me cool down a little. I almost wrote a very long, very angry rant
*starting here* about people who don't care to read these notes and just assume they know that Jhonen Vasquez is my art idol and I aspired to ape the very essnce of his style and the early archive are a @#$* mirror image of JTHM. And how I cannot possibly fathom how anyone gets that idea in their head other than the fact that CTV is referred to as “goth” styled and therefore I must read those kinds of comics, or someone mistook HIS STRIPEY PIRATE SHIRT for something JTHM wears. Or someone assumes you can only write violent comics if you read JTHM, completely ignoring the fact that Chuck Jones did violent cartoons,Harry Graham wrote violent poems and I also did a worse comic called Beck the Ferret for 9 years that had more pointless violence than you can shake a bloody stick at. And how it's obvious they don't care enough about what I say in these notes to even believe me when I say MORE THAN ONCE that I didn't even KNOW about that comic when I started CTV! If someone's gonna accuse me of ripping off a goth comic, for flippin' frogs sake pick one that at LEAST has the same proportions or at LEAST a similar cast, like freakin' Little Gloomy (the super scary monster show, being the “revamped style” she used to be bigger) or Scary Miss Mary who at least has beady shiney eyes. 2 comics I still haven't read but am aware of, at least it would make SENSE if someone compared Charby to that, rather than random-humored, big-headed stick figures like the ones in JTHM! Plus those who actually bothered to read my notes would know that I am aware about Hex's “almost similar” hairdo, I just wasn't when I designed the character OR the character that had the hairdo BEFORE Hex.*end*
Y'know, a rant like that, only much longer.
To all those that give me the consideration of reading what I say here, thank you. I'm sorry you had to see me get like this but it has me at my wits end right now. I'm usually very laid back about criticism but being taken for a style ape will simply not fly with me. Badly drawn violent attempts at anime about pirates does not equal a JTHM influence! How many times must I say it? Call the art crappy, it was, call it stupid or pointless! At least that is true! Don't make me link more junk at you to prove my point because I WILL upload every single bad thing I drew and show you what I used to draw and how I don't need no stinking goth comic to show me how to draw! Bill Watterson and Looney Tunes however, did give me inspiration.
You give very good speeches, Amelius. It had humour to keep me interested and enough explaining and description to get your point across and give reason to the emotion and feeling--and even make me feel the same way.
Kudos...
(And the comic's lovely as ever, but I figured your note up there deserved a comment.)
Hehe, funny hoe K'ale goes from protecting Mye to trying to eat her xD
EEP! Fairy dust! What if Mye sneezes? Now THAT would be interesting indeed xD
Oh Amy...I'll bet the *only* thing that truely relates CTV and JTHM is Hex's and Johnny's similar hair styles, but nothing else really! Please don't let it spoil your mood too much okay? *hug* :)
I love the last panel
I completely agree with your rant. I've read the entire comic so far and I agree with Eternal Cynic, I haven't seen anything remotely similar to JTHM except for Hex's hair, wich I didn't notice until you pointed it out.
Why ARE they hiding in the bathroom? What in the world were they planning to do AFTER that?
Amy, your comic is amazing and original. I hate it when people make stupid assumptions about artists' inspirations.
Well. My respect for LaBelle heightens. I still like Mye more, though. Azelea, Azelea... I would have run away too. Dang, I thought K'ale just ripped things up, not actually EAT them. Gotta love seeing LaBelle look all disturbed in the last panel. A pity she doesn't have pupils, I would have liked to see her full reaction to that.
To be honest, I've read through the entire archives and never drawn a parallel between JTHM and this comic. The similarities seem obscure at best, and I'm surprised that so many seem to think that's where your style originated.
delunaeus you're asking for a rhymes-with-witch smack talking bad about Azalea like that.
Azalea is by far the best female character in the comic. She is clever, pretty, and fabulous as opposed to Mye 'Oh help I've, like, fainted again' the witch.
For a demon-phobic, Sadick sure looks calm and collect!
I love Mye's pose and expression in the fourth panel, and how serious K'ale looks in the fifth panel! He looks so different without big wide eyes and a grin XD
Personally, I have been reading Charby for over a year now I believe and why on earth would anyone say you were ... what was it... a 'style ape' as you put it?
Your style is rather unique and has a fun story that I'm always coming back to read again and again. My entire dorm reads Charby, well at least the first through fourth floors!
Keep it up, and all those nay sayers can go suck a egg!
quite the rant : )
#666 is coming up...
sorry to hear about the power failure, if its any consolation, i've actually databased all your comic names thrice now : ) its a good thing i type fast... its also good that it ought to be the last time : ) I sent some updates to your hotmail, so please check that... and maybe right be an email back when you wake up. I see you were up quite late. Anyway, great comic!
Eh, some people are just idiots.
Good comic. Is there anything special planned for #666? I guess you probably won't tell us even if there is but I hope so.
you were first, amelius. Just remember...
You have a fanbase who would be very happy to find your critics in a deserted alley one dark and stormy night...maybe demonstrate a few of Charby's - unique - talents...
*cough*
umm...yeah
*turns into bat and flies away*
I find myself surprisingly for the idea of TRYING to eat Mye.
But with the exception of K'ale not being very formally dressed, why are they hiding in the bathroom? Or have they just not gotten ready to get back into the party? So yeah, this just seems really irrational. I mean, shouldn't he be more concerned with keeping a low profile?

omg. how dare they! >=( seriously the ones that were links to comics havent even been up as long as this one.

I dont really see any supposid "influence" that could be from JTHM in your art, even in your early stuff. Oh, next page is #666 could be a milestone?

As far as I can tell, you're completely original and brilliantly so. You're my second favourite webcomic artist, second only to David Willis ^.^

OK that's just a gross idea eating a little girl I'd rather eat a cockroach.
