This is my first shot at drawing the Castle, the headquarters for Majestic Knight. Knight is an interesting combination of Batman and Hawkman. As readers of his comic know, Knight's interest in the medieval is not purely antiquarian. Like Hawkman, he can remember his previous lives…including a very famous one. Many of the items stored in the Castle are weapons famed in story and song from epics and sagas. Yet his real fighting weaponry, although in medieval form, is cutting edge, state-of-the-art.
Anyway, I had fun with the medieval trappings and tapestries. It may be a converted fallout shelter, but I wanted to give it a truly medieval flavor.—Al
Besides, he COULD be a reincarnation from Arthurian times---or he could be a nut. Just because the possibilities exist doesn't mean that it's true in this instance.
So they believe in cross-dimensional/time travel but not the possibility that this guy is either immortal or a reborn Arthurian knight? That is actually less believable...
Thanks for all the kind words, everyone! I enjoyed working on it. Oh, and Essaybee had some corruption on the page he was working on---he was going to update on Thursday, but it looks like it'll be Friday instead.
ya, this probably is the best page al has done for crossoverkill, the swords and such in the first panel are all slightly different, yet all are still from medieval europe, and all from about the same region. the shields are a bit off time period wise, but they complement quite nicely. i like the fill technique used for the background and some objects, it compliments his style quite nicely, and breaks up the monocolor fills he tends to use. i like how al used shine to accentuate catherine, not sure if it would have worked as well on the knight since he has less curves. while i'd say that hais best panel was way back when suki was taking a nap, this is his best page. of course now there is that pressure to top this, so maybe i might find a better page later on, all depends if he can improve on this.
A checkerboard tablecloth, Neil? Well, I guess the natural compliment of medieval chic is American picnic.
Wonderful job on this page, Al. Although the longer sequence Neil mentioned would've been entertaining (much like Batman's reprimand of Flash--and the resulting reactions of the rest of the Justice League--in the "Paradise Lost" episode of Justice League), but I think it was wise to drop it to keep the story moving.
Oh! One more thing. I think the script had a longer sequence of the heroes looking around and asking about different items in the room. It was a lot of stuff like, "IWhat's this?", and, "It's very dangerous. Don't touch that." Very funny to have heroes scolded again and again, but it was also a little tedious, I suppose.
Anime and manga fans might get a kick out of the third panel. Look really closely at what's in the glass case in front of Yuuki.
A table cloth with a checkerboard pattern, just for you, Al. Perhaps even argyle.
Al's color choices have been getting really experimental of late. And I realize that he's using pattern fills to dress up the walls and the drapes, but he's doing it in such a way that it doesn't call attention to itself. Everything is so subdued in this page. It's great. It makes all of the characters pop out.
And best of all, Al has done some of his best facial expressions on this page. The lats panel, especially. I love when characters can shoot a glance at each other without saying a word, and yet you know exactly what they're thinking.
Of all the pages Al has done for Crossoverkill so far I think this is one of his best - a stellar effort. The detail is impressive and that first panel is a knock out. Fusion's expression in the second panel is perfect. That wonderful Round Table is going to be a real b*tch to draw though... and we have a scene coming up where it features much more prominantly.
I hope Mindmistress openly investigates Knight's recollection, because her face in the last panel seems way too skeptical/intrigued by it. Heck, even Hoodoo seems to be wondering just what Knight meant with his recollection.

I wouldn't say they don't believe him... just that the comment took them by surprise.

I agree, this is some of Al's best work yet!

I still don't believe in past life stuff.

We can always put a tablecloth over the Round Table, Xmung, for simplicity's sake.
