After being in Valhalla, a retirement home for superheroes, it's only natural that they might question their mission a little–so I wanted to show what a really deathless world would be like. That's mold growing along some of the skyscrapers. In some realities, their Death-Avatar might just be in charge of human deaths–in others, their Grim Reaper might control all deaths, everywhere. That seems to be the case in THIS world–and if not for the death-aura given them last page, our group would be very quickly infected and thier lives made a living hell. This world has probably not been without a death for very long–a few weeks at most. And it's only natural that the multiply-reincarnated Majestic Knight, and a Valkyrie like Yuuki, could sense the lack of Death on this world. But who's the other knight?Hint: he's not from this reality either. There are a LOT of surprises next time.–Al
I'll be honest with you guys---it's not looking good for tomorrow, either. I'm closer, but I may not make it. If I don't---it'll be up Tuesday, but it'll be extra long. It just doesn't lend itself to splitting itself up as easily as some pages do.
So, if you don't see a new update tomorrow--Tuesday.
Ooh, ouch. Yeah, without death, cancer would be survivable, but it would be a condition that turns you into a deformed freak because your body couldn't kill the cancer either. Not to mention, since offspring don't die, things could get overcrowded quite quickly.
Wordplay? Huzzah!
The scene actually reminded me of Blue Gender's atmosphere- fair enough to say, humanity doesn't do so well when bugs don't die so much.
Actually I couldn't see much of a reason to question the mission based on seeing old and infirm people. It's not like the loss of the ability to die would prevent the continued loss of faculties ala Tithonus. But I suppose when Fusion sees old people maybe she is reminded of people in her family she'll one day lose.
lots of ways of adapting to a deathless world, in fact even though one can't die they probably can be deconstructed. in other words dissolved, butcher and eat a cow and it's cells would dissolve in your stomach, resulting in the cessation of its function. the biggest advantage of a deathless world is that cancer wouldn't be nearly as big of a problem, your body could fight it off since both the cancer cells and the non cancerous cells would not die.
BTW, we actually discussed this scene BEFORE the last season of Torchwood, which had a similar world (albeit only humans couldn't die) in passing. So we aren't riffing off Torchwood (which is/was an excellent show) just a case of similar minds going in the same direciton.
why not try to burn the insects, they'd still be alive but they wouldn't have anything to move with. is there some kindof healing factor that comes from death's absence?
I can imagine how the fight between knights would go . . .
MAJESTIC KNIGHT: You've got no arms left.
BLUE KNIGHT: Yes I have.
MAJESTIC KNIGHT: Look!
BLUE KNIGHT: Just a flesh wound.
MAJESTIC KNIGHT: (to himself) Hmm. I seem to remember having this conversation in another life.

crazy_goodfellow at 10:02AM, July 10, 2012
Not to mention you can't kill animals or plants to eat them... unless you eat them by parts.
