Readers recognized that this man was from somewhere in the Masters of the Universe line. Some guessed He-man. Some guessed Skeletor. The really knowledgeable readers guessed Faker (Edbang is among those who thought this guy is Faker).

Let me tell you where he's from… When I was little, I saw MotU toys in a flea market. These figures had foreign packaging. The descriptions on the back and the pictures on the packaging are not the kid-friendly ones that we knew of. The pictures and words painted an untamed landscape where musclebound warriors riding on giant tigers roamed the wastes and battled with fearsome sorcery and gleaming steel. This was the original He-man (cue Conan music). I was scared of these toys when I saw them.

Anyways, He-man had a grey sword. Skeletor had an identical blue sword. The two swords combined to form one sword that neither could hold correctly in their hands. The American packaging didn't talk about this at all, but it didn't take very long for a kid to figure out what that meant.

I had taken a villain and put him in a position to be a hero. Now I wanted to take a hero and make him into a pitiless, implacable force of nature. But I didn't want to violate canon. This was what I came up with.
