Page 4: issue 4 - A Saucerful of Secrets

That's my friend Daniel cameoing as the bartender. He's an actual bartender at Club 501 and he likes to do that when people comes through the door. In fact, he often gets reciprocation, but I didn't feel the need to show that here. It's not in Julie's nature to flash people and this is a T-rated comic, besides. I feel that I already pushed it once with showing breasts (despite the nature of the scene not showing anything sexual about it) and don't want to push the envelope. I like the idea of this comic being for almost everyone (without being E rated, because otherwise I wouldn't feel right showing the violence necessary for my type of superhero stories and the drinking that will happen–like in this issue).

Also, did people notice the bit of a cameo on this page? The jukebox seems to be playing a song from everyone's favorite spoiled pop princess from the webcomic Magellan, Charisma Epoch! It seems somebody put on her hit song Kiss Me. Thank goodness comics are not an auditory medium, or else your ears might bleed from her awful dreck full of daddy issues and self-centeredness.

This page was both fun and frustrating to draw. I liked drawing the characters (though I don't think Daniel looks anything like he really does), but the backgrounds were so time-consuming. It was so much of a hassle that I didn't even draw everything in the last paneland didn't even realize until I'd scanned the page and started to color it. But drawing so much background detail should, in theory, get me better at drawing such things.

I almost forgot to mention my little fun with brand names up there (better visible on the cover): instead of having Jagermeister on tap, they have its identical substitute of Jogermiser. The logo doesn't say O deer God like this, but there's a price to pay for everything.

Monday: Who is that, anyways? I'm sure people can guess, but sometimes it's good to leave people in suspense.
