Fire Appointment

This story still makes me laugh. A local mobile home park called Tanglewood refused to give it's gate code to the fire department zoned to cover them because they claimed that if the fire department needed to get in they could simply sound their squelch horn and the gate would automatically open.

The problem with this is that the fire department zoned to cover this area is a volunteer fire department, meaning that they will not all be coming in a big truck with a squelch horn, many will be coming in their own private vehicles. So the need the code.

However Tanglewood was leary of all these volunteer firefighters having the code to gain access to their little gated utopia and was holding out on giving the code to them… the problem became further complicated when the fire department told our local paper about this and Tanglewood got upset. Tanglewood claimed that they had no problem with the fire department having the code, all the local pizza companies have the code why would it be a problem if the fire department had it? Although they claim to have no problem with giving the code out, they told the fire department that because they went to the newspaper and made them look bad they were never going to get it.

Sadly, I never heard of a resolution to this problem, I know that this comic greatly upset the residents of Tanglewood who were unaware that if they where to have a fire they may have trouble getting help as fast as possible. However, the local fire captain said he would drive through the gate if he had to… or call the pizza delivery company to come let him in.
