as I said a fool, not only did he not realize they were being toyed with but he failed to consider that in the time their navigation shields were down they could easily have been boarded as he should have by determining how the replacements operate, on their own terms with surprise on their side, he is still operating under the delusion that they use honor tactics and are forthcoming on their abilities and have already demonstrated their full capabilities. He knows from Robbert's gun that they are not of earth, he should have logically prepared for the possibility the only difference here between himself and Simeon Prime when they took him out is location and that thinker isn't a tank

And he finally get to test the main gun on this thing agains flying targets. @mhalpern: He seemed to be unaware that the Replacements even were from Terra. Any superhuman from this world would have given him more time to plan the combat out.

I noticed the sneak peak on smackjeeves, so I wont spoil anything, though i do wonder if star would make a portal to keep this ship from doing something that i will not specify, I wonder how much pressure it takes to make her hull buckle... then again i could think of another solution that had been used in a few star trek movies, its really a frequently re-purposed safety feature of the 1701s any more detail and I risk spoiling it
