Off Hours - Chapter 1 Page 6
dueeast on Dec. 6, 2007
I know, I know – I keep updating early! I can't help it, I finished it early! So here we go with page 6…
You wanted paparazzi? We give you paparazzi!
But are the paparazzi ready for Chance Powers? One gets the impression this young actress has gone a few rounds with them already…
I hope you enjoy this page as much as I enjoyed making it up!
Did I mention I love parody-? Oh, and try to guess who I patterned the TV Trainwreck anchorwoman (from the last frame) after! It shouldn't be too difficult…and I have no idea why I chose her. Just seemed to make sense at the time.
Oh, and please visit the Off Hours Forum!

Stupid weight-obsessed media >:-{ Think everyone should be friggin' skin and bones, no wonder anorexia and bulemia are such HUGE problems, so many people have depression and anxiety - this world is enough to drive one to drink... I choose to drink COCA-COLA ... but still ;-)

Love the way you made fun of the whole showbiz world. It's hysterical! And Chance is still a hottie with that extra baggage. Love the flirtatious look in the bottom left panel.

Heh!...last panel is so true to tabloid form...

This is a very clever idea for a comic. This page is very funny, and directly on target.

Great job on the last 3 pages! This was a very funny page indeed. So many crazy people are going to be at this resort! By the way, I'm back from my internet malfunctions =P

blntmaker: Clever question! I suppose that depends on if you're perceiving it as a webcomic or a television show. But, in this case, the pencil does carry a lot of weight when it comes to how the characters look. :)
blntmaker at 7:29AM, Dec. 7, 2007
In the case of this series, do the cameras or do the pencils add 10 pounds?
blntmaker at 7:27AM, Dec. 7, 2007
Great page - love the coloring as always! This is so Hollywood! Body image and all - Reminds me of when Charlize Theron gained weight for Monster or Renee Zellweger for the Bridget Jones franchise. And it wouldn't be a Hollywood story without paparazzi! You'll love my edition then! Such a great series!

Ouch! Now how am I going to put up my page that is free of the pests? I will have to add a little something.

usedbooks: Thanks. Yeah, Chance can obviously take care of herself, when it comes to the tabloids... :) DAJB: Well, actually, your observation was spot on and a great suggestion. As it happens, when I'm motivated on a comedic idea that involves parody, I can crank out that idea ridiculously fast. The idea came right when I had 2 days off from work. D0m: If you go back and read the Due East archives, you'll see that initially Sapphira weighed about 50 or 60 pounds less than she does now. Btw, I want to say, for the record, that this will probably be the last Off Hours page that directly deals with Chance's/Phira's weight. I thought it would be helpful for the readers to know that this actress gained weight for the part. However, I also wanted to make a little social commentary on how weight is portrayed in tabloid media and the media in general. For instance, if an actress gains even 10 pounds, it's a spectacle or a scandal. Whereas, people's weights vary by 5 to 10 pounds in a year regularly in real life.

Fascinating that this actress gained weight for her role. :-) Very cool twist.
DAJB at 11:57PM, Dec. 6, 2007
Yay - paparazzi! Sorry I doubted you!

lol. Great page. Pesky tabloid people... That's one way to deal with them.
