Chapter One -- Page Nineteen

I really like inking with a brush. I don't know why I don't do it more often. (I think I say this every time I decide to brush ink a page. XD)
Also, thanks for your input on my page output, guys. I dunno, it's a goal I want to reach, but yeah…I need to be realistic. We'll see! :)

Echoing everyone else here--read the archive, congrats...the style is gorgeous. I love Victorian-era comics. I have dabbled in it myself and find that drawing the costumes is quite fun. You sure do a bang-up job at it! It definitely deserved the feature.

@Mia -- Thanks for the indepth review! Unfortunately, I think any steampunk-ish story with a female protagonist, and especially one that dares to wear glasses, is going to end up with some comparison to Girl Genius. I've already steeled myself against that sort of comparison. XD (Penny refused to be drawn as anything other than a chubby, slightly frumpy girl with glasses. And I tried!) Penny's setting, for the record, is an alternate early 20th century New York (Or Nieu Amsterdam. They just kept the original name, here.) The Victorian age in the United States lingered a bit longer than it did in England. As for Mr. Loh's & his snotty young companion's actions...They aren't supposed to be interpreted as anything other than a bit foolish. They are operating right in the alleyway (which I'll establish a little better in the next few pages) -- the actions are indeed illegal, but the corruption in early NYC politics & police knew no bounds, something that will hopefully become more apparent as I progress in the story! I MAY be switching over to color within the next chapter or two, and in the process. I am trying some different techniques that might make it quicker, but still look good. Thanks again! And..Thank you to everyone else! As for the concerns about the page being a bit unclear, I blame the fact that I realize it's hard to do exposition pages when doing a webcomic. You only get one page at a time, which disrupts the flow of story. Hopefully the next page will clear things up, and I greatly appreciate your honesty! :) I admit to reading too much manga (Bleach especially these days) that likes bouncing around between expressions and wordless exposition to get the feeling of a scene. That works better, I think when you're giving your audience 18 pages at a time to sink their teeth into. Oh, the contraints of a medium!

I'm glad that this comic became featured - I don't know if I would have stumbled across it, otherwise. I just finished reading through the archives, and I quite like both your style and your story. At first I was worried that it was a bit derivative of the "Girl Genius" comic (what with the technology/19th century British mixture, and the character design of Penny), but I quickly realized that you were going somewhere quite different. Your color work IS amazing, but I can understand why you don't do it on a daily basis (isn't it frustrating how life intervenes?). I am a little confused as to exactly where this is all taking place - this scene, I mean. If Penny is seeing all of this they must be on Mr. Loh's doorstep, or in the hallway and he left the door wide open. But that seems strangely foolish of him, if golems are illegal, and the repair of them also illegal. Is Penny looking through a window? And aren't the golems so out of human proportion that they'd be obviously non-human? I suppose I haven't seen enough other character designs to know whether they would fit in or not. Overall, I'm glad that I found this comic, and look forward to seeing where it goes. Thanks for making it!

I'm sorry, Dani, but I'm not getting this page at all. I want to, but it feels like 2 or 3 panels are missing.
