This flashback page is, of course, from Jack Caleb point-of-view. Kimber Lee never experienced any of it directly. All this occurs at the tail-end and after the ‘helipad scene’ (pgs 93-108).
.
Hues are darker than usual, as everything depicted here happened at night!
.
This page (and next few) are wordier than usual (which is saying something, considering how wordy I already am…).
.
My pace has slowed a little as we're trying to remodel a kitchen (and rescue things when the water heater sprung a leak… Some people say Hot Water Heater - I just say Water Heater, as it doesn't heat ‘hot’ water… how pedantic of me!)
.
Thanks for reading everyone

I say water heater too if it's any comfort! haha Nice flashback. I've already refreshed my memory a little after Eli's return but it's nice to be reassured I've got it reasonably right.

Hey Kim, Check out the amazing Theme Gunwallce made for The God Strain in the latest Quackcast http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/quackcast/episode-202-the-lady-is-a-stranger/ :)
VinoMas at 9:47PM, Jan. 19, 2015
I like the grey background with all the different shots of action throughout!

@Brogan: Thanks!! I do love the vignette style. There's a lovely illustrated novel called Stardust (by Neil Gaiman) that heavily uses a vignette style with the text interspersing (and sometimes crawling around) the images (they made a movie for Stardust recently, staring Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeifer, and a few other notable stars). I think, if I ever try to create something worth publishing, it'll be like in this style!
brogan68 at 10:35AM, Jan. 19, 2015
Wow, this page is awesome! I love the way you decided on using vignettes for the flashback scenes.

@Vie: Heya... at the moment watercolor overlaying pen and pencil, but I've tried lots of different things (pure watercolor, watercolor pencils... etc...) and I'm sure I will again in the future. I will also mess around with coloring, hues, and shadowing after I scan in some, but I generally suck with digital art... I think I could get okay at it but I'm too lazy to learn :D
Vie at 8:41AM, Jan. 16, 2015
What is your media you use?? It is very interesting :)
ghostrunner at 7:44AM, Jan. 16, 2015
:D
KimLuster at 4:12AM, Jan. 16, 2015
@ghostrunner: at the end of this story I'd like everyone to tell me! ;)
KimLuster at 4:11AM, Jan. 16, 2015
@Plymayer: Cool! :)
KimLuster at 4:11AM, Jan. 16, 2015
@tupapayon: I'm mad because I can't place that quote... :)
ghostrunner at 2:21AM, Jan. 16, 2015
just got finished reading it. so a big question. is this all real or a dream?
plymayer at 10:19PM, Jan. 15, 2015
Pacing seems about right. Hadn't noticed the wordiness of it. Feels right for the page.
plymayer at 10:18PM, Jan. 15, 2015
Ouch.

@Peipei: Yeah, if someone told me that death would make me into something greater, I'd probably go, 'haha sure... you first!'
Peipei at 6:09PM, Jan. 15, 2015
I don't know...I'm a little weirded out by the idea of dying in order to come back stronger. It's a truly awesome thing to do but death itself scares me :S.
KimLuster at 11:51AM, Jan. 15, 2015
@tupapayon: Nope... nothing like Big J at all... ;) or... do you remember Kimber Lee's pose in the last panel of page 210...?
tupapayon at 11:34AM, Jan. 15, 2015
Hold it with the religiosity… there's nothing to compare… she died and came three days later she came back to life … and she grants part of the strain to others and they become like her… nothing like Jesus or anything… right?…
KimLuster at 11:26AM, Jan. 15, 2015
@FC: Why Thank You!! I like where you're going with the metaphysics of all this - I don't feel I can say you're right or wrong without revealing too much... But, Eli and Kimber convo isn't finished, and the story's far from done - so stick with me :D Hmmm, could this be the Allahstrain...? Would Kimber Lee be a prophet...? Would I have to stop depicting her in this comic...? Sorry, couldn't resist...
fallopiancrusader at 10:42AM, Jan. 15, 2015
With writing as good as this, I don't mind wordiness in the least! Philosophically, the hierarchy developing here is very intriguing. If Eli and Caleb have been resurrected as manifestations of Kimber Lee's perceptions, then she is sort of a weird spirit-mother to them. They are sort of like Athena, who was born from the forehead of Zeus. Would a Muslim refer to the entity as the Allahstrain?
KimLuster at 8:12AM, Jan. 15, 2015
@Ghostrunner: I know right... People act like it's the Ultimate... the Omega Point... Like it's the last thing worth doing... I just don't get it!!
KimLuster at 8:10AM, Jan. 15, 2015
@Banes: Thank You! Yes, and Jack already had an inflated sense of self! Gosh, Golly, and Gee... They're all the same thing! It's like a Holy 'Leave it to Beaver' Trinity!
