Not totally happy with this page! The poses and text… but this was after several re-do's… Sometimes you just gotta walk away… I really gotta figure out how to draw explosions and gunfire better so they don't look like colored-water soakers!
.
Can one of the ‘godstrained’ be killed… permanently? Kimber Lee hopes so…!
.
I had every intention of doing a text-heavy synopsis page (for those who haven't been able to read the whole story yet)… sigh… It's been a different kind of week!!
.
I'm gonna have go back and add insignias to some of these uniforms (digitally… where my skills suck) - Bravo has been very kind to point me to various special forces who could comprise these soldiers…!
.
Thanks for reading everyone! :)

Eli's becoming a truly terrifying phenomena. It reminds me of the very creepy 'monsters from the id' idea used in Forbidden Plannet as if the memories of abuse that Kimberley has fought for so long to suppress have grown in the darkness. I relate totally to your concerns over the art btw. Most pages go fairly smoothly but I do find if something doesn't look right from the start it seems to long wrong no matter what I do even to the point of touching up the page again when it comes back from the colorist. 'Publish and be damned' is a term that gives me great relief at times! :)

@ghosty: truism if I ever heard one!!
KimLuster at 4:28AM, April 3, 2015
@Sway: Thank You!! :D

@Peipei: they took inventory and they have JUST enough bullet - they better not miss even once...!!
ghostrunner at 3:07AM, April 3, 2015
no one is invincible, just some are so powerful the difference is negligible

Wow! This page has some PHENOMENAL pacing in it. That first panel does an amazing job of slowing things down to the point where you can almost hear a heartbeat ticking in the background as the seconds pass. And super kudos on the creeptastic design, here! It's really unsettling, especially in that last panel. Awesome work!
Peipei at 9:27PM, April 2, 2015
That is just creepy and wrong at the same time. How many bullets is it gonna take to get this guy down?! Let's hope he doesn't regenerate himself or something off the wall like that!

@FC: Awesome! That's kinda what I was going for...! The embodiment of 'Mine!!!' (a toddler's favorite word!)
KimLuster at 7:42AM, April 2, 2015
@Bravo: Thank you! And thanks for the 'gore' tips...! I'll keep in mind when future Metal meets Flesh!!
KimLuster at 7:40AM, April 2, 2015
@plymayer: I can promise they're gonna try their damndest! At what cost indeed...!

Now that Eli is on the loose, he looks particularly terrifying, like a titanic baby. Pure id. I think explosions and fire are some of the hardest things to paint. Especially in watercolor, where you can't revise stuff.

Good job with implying slowed time. Even reading as fast as I do it still felt strained, tense and taking seemingly forever. In combat three seconds can be a long time and five minutes an eternity. Depicting gunfire and explosions in soft tissue is hard without going all super gory. Remember the spiral of an explosion is actually random and all those little lines would are bits of debris flying off in all directions. Look at time lapse photography of stuff falling and impacting into other stuff.
plymayer at 6:51AM, April 2, 2015
Can he be killed? And if so, at what cost?
KimLuster at 6:33AM, April 2, 2015
@tupapayon: Ha Yeah, maybe it's a case of there-are-no-atheists-in-foxholes! -- (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There_are_no_atheists_in_foxholes), or maybe not!... About the slowed-time thing... Yeah I had no clue how to convey it with the images so I resorted to the text... I'm glad that it seems to have worked a bit :) We'll return to normal speed soon!!

@Banes: Thanks! Well, 'The Dream Team' are the ones who said he's subject to the laws of physics, although they do allude to possible physics they don't understand yet... Back on page 229 Jack monologues about a possible 'energy field' that permeates the cells of the 'godstrained' - that it might strengthen them, somewhat explaining their strength and resiliency, and also how Eli can be so large and still function... If I was an attorney on the other side I might say 'Objection your Honor, that is pure conjecture!' :D
tupapayon at 6:04AM, April 2, 2015
I love how you made me feel the slow mo thing with words and images… double nice job… you know, the bigger they are… praying to someone you don't believe in, that's when you find out you're not really an atheist but an agnostic… or something…
Banes at 5:51AM, April 2, 2015
Looks good to me! Hmm...so, if he's subject to the laws of physics, his size can be somewhat of a hindrance, right? It's probably hard for him to move. The law about the...transverse...uh...the waste-hip ratio or something? This is an exciting page; I have a feeling it's going to fall to Kim to deal with this monster. Ya gotta conquer your fears and face your inner (and outer!) demons...
