Part of me kept thinking this final confrontation between Eli and Kimber Lee should be an earth-shattering, cataclysmic smash-down!! But… a bigger part just couldn't it see that way. Kimber Lee has already been through those, and she's suffered so much throughout this story. I felt that, once she triumphed over and suppressed the Godstrain, she's now head and shoulders more powerful that the others, even though it took her a bit to realize it…
And she came to realize it! It's like being willing to die over it brought clarity. She wanted Eli to just surrender, and bring some kind of closure (plus possibly avoid the need for bombing him (and her)). He didn't play ball, but now that she defeated him he's very conciliatory… Maybe showing him her soul had an effect after all…!! The most closure we can get between these two…
As for the transfer of Godstrain's power, well… As long as one of the partners is willing to give it up, it's just not that hard (just like it wasn't that hard to bestow it to begin with). I've insinuated that it's largely hooked to one's will, and it can't just be taken (although you can beat someone to the point where they're willing to give it up - as nearly happened to Kimber Lee a few times, but our gal held on…)
We're not completely done with this story, but nearly so (what are these mysterious plans Eli's talking about? What won't he just come out a say…? Once last act of rascality I suppose…) I've been told that the Godstrain has to be finished by Aug 5 to be eligible for Best Completed - I strongly feel it'll be finished by then..
Been a hell of a ride! Thanks for taking it with me, Everyone!!

It's a much more satisfying end than for him to go out as an irredeemable cad to the very end. At death's door, he's gone through his final transformation, learned his final lesson, completed his journey and meets his end at peace with himself. He's not winning any medals for this last act of magnanimity, but at least we see there's a human in there, somewhere.

This feels so true, once again. I didn't know I wanted this, but I did. Wow...we're getting near the end of the Godstrain. End of an era. Hell of a ride, indeed! Can't wait to see where the rest of it goes. Amazing scene here - love that first panel and the last three. Powerful stuff.
KimLuster at 3:38AM, May 19, 2017
Thanks! Yeah, it feels bittersweet! I've really enjoyed working on this thing, and I could have stretched it out... but it was just time to end!! I'll take a break for a bit (but still will be on the site, reading and commenting :D) until I figure out exactly what I want to do next - so many ideas...!!
Whirlwynd at 7:30AM, May 18, 2017
I wouldn't know what to say either
KimLuster at 10:22AM, May 18, 2017
Haha me either... then again, I'm like that most of the time in RL!! :)

I was taken by surprise here and half assumed Eli's dying words were just another attempt to catch Kim off gaurd to either steal her power or somehow merge with her, but when I realised this was really it, I have to admit it's probably the nicest closure you could have given these two. As I've mentioned before, I've seen and read about many cases where adults who were abused as children were denied an apology and I guess only the victim could truly understand just how much more important than that is than revenge. IF you ever see the Brit film 'Philomena' based on a true story of a woman who had her baby taken away and sold by nuns when she was 15, although it's about abuse of a different kind it still demonstrates very well how differently a victim feels to those who view events from the outside. So I have to say this ending you have given ELi meant a lot to me as a reader, for those very same reasons. You always write with such thought and integrity which is why I think this comic
KimLuster at 6:19AM, May 18, 2017
Wow, Sky...! I'm like Kimber Lee... I totally don't know what to say...! It is a warm and wonderful feeling to think that a simple webcomic could have that sort of touch!! Thank You so much!! I'm going to look up the film Philomena (I usually love British films and BBC shows - this one sounds right up my alley !! )
skyangel at 1:36AM, May 18, 2017
is so well loved.
plymayer at 10:18PM, May 17, 2017
He just doesn't want to go deeper into hell. Sorry, not my place to forgive, talk to God about that.
KimLuster at 6:16AM, May 18, 2017
Haha, yeah I originally had some script where Kimber Lee actually suggest that to him... that if he could be good, at the very end, maybe he'll go out like Darth Vader... I quickly edited that out - as I said to Avart, Ol' Darth was forgiven a bit too eagerly, and didn't want the same to apply to Eli... Well, if God's there, maybe Eli get's chance to talk to him (or maybe a kernel of the Godstrain pretending to be God... ;))
Avart at 10:15PM, May 17, 2017
Eli, as many people, on the edge of death showed his true self. He's not the typicall villain. Fantastic page!
KimLuster at 6:14AM, May 18, 2017
It's almost like Darth Vader's death. At the end you saw a tiny glimpse of goodness, and what could have been... But then, all the massive damage and death he caused... Sometimes I think Darth Vader was forgiven too easily... And maybe here too... Although Kimber Lee didn't really forgive him, she's certainly grateful he was finally good to her in a small way, at the end...
bravo1102 at 4:46PM, May 17, 2017
The thing is, despite all his strutting and claims to the contrary, he always was just a victim. He thought he was in control but the whole time circumstances were controlling him.
KimLuster at 6:11AM, May 18, 2017
Yeah, Eli certainly didn't choose to get kidnapped by Jack Caleb, then inadvertently turned into a mutant monstrosity by Kimber Lee, and then get bombed by the military... But he does seem to be aware (as he insinuated a few pages back) that he may be the first piece in this domino chain!! He's certainly not innocent, but even Kimber Lee wouldn't've wished this fate on him... Still, he has caused lots of pain and death... I feel a little like Plymayer - really hard to forgive, although grateful he acted decent at the very end...
