I just wanted to thank everyone who has sacrificed and struggled to help America live up to it's creed. Without their sacrifice Obama would not become the president tomorrow. How fitting is that?! MLK's birthdays today and the inaugural tomorrow. Anyone going to it? I'm in the area so I'm definitely going to see history being made.

Well said, like Obama said it's up to us to lead the future so it is our time to carry on the torch.

I think it's a bit of coincidence that the first African-American President is elected a day after MLK day.

You mean the inauguration. :)
Wiki says MLK day is observed on the third Monday of January… and the inauguration has been on the 20th since 1937, so it was bound to be close whenever a black president was elected.

Yeah, they must coincide every 6 years or so… though that would only be an election year every 12 years. 12 years ago would have been a Clinton swear-in. Now I'm curious, I have to check and see if my theory is right….

Edit: Yup! I am so smart

2009: Obama
1997: Clinton
1985: Reagan (MLK Jr Day was not a holiday until 1986 so this and futher ones don't count)
1973: Oddly Jan 20 isn't a monday for this year, or the next few 12-year intervals after this point (I didn't check far). I bet leap years are to blame for this somehow.

Heh, yeah, that's pretty clever reasoning. ^_^
It's an interesting numerical setup…
