Hi;

I'm a middle school English teacher in rural South Korea, which is not nearly as interesting as it sounds. You may also remember me as the editor of BAM! (BigAssMini), the Lulu.com print anthol that some drunkduckers particpated in. BAM failed miserably, hahaha… shit.

Anyways, I just started a webcomic. I have a lot of these strips already drawn, so I should be able to update regularly. You cna look at the first strip here: http://www.drunkduck.com/murky_waters .

Okay, no more plugging. A question: I'm very new to webcomics (as a creator, at least), and am much more experienced creating black and white print comics. Is there any decent online guide to it? I have a lot to learn about coloring software, the best ways to promote and advertise, etc….

Also, how do I set up my own forum on drunkduck? Do I need to pay extra, or get X amount of hits, or can anyone have their own forum for their strip? I guess I have a lot of other questions too. I'll ask 'em as they occur to me.

How to make a Comic Forum:

1. Go to “my account”
2. Press edit on the comic you want to have a forum for.
3. Then press Forum/Blog.
4. Press “+Create new”

If ya got anymore questions, there's a good possibility that I could answer it.

Oh and, welcome to DrunkDuck.

Welcome to the Duck!

So, what's it like in South Korea?

Southy. That's pretty appropriate, actually, as the climate and lay of the land are almost identical to the Appalacian foothils of Kentucky. Rural Korea is crazy boring, actually, but my newfound webcomics hobby is helping me stay sane. And I go up to Seoul on the weeknds to get trashed with Canadians and Iraqis and other waygooks (the pejojorative Korean term for “foreinger” ) in the foreigner ghetto at the heart of the city.

Thanks for the comment, Cthulu. I just put up another strip. When I get two or three more up, I think I'll start trying to figure out how to promote the damn thing.

Easy, buddy. Just calm down.

It's spelled “Cthulhu”. Note the second “h”.

Welcome to DD. :)

Rural anywhere tends to be kinda boring, but I'd still like to see South Korea some day. I don't know the Korean language, but I'm a fan of listening to it. Big fan of some Korean movies and dramas.

Well, they'll hire anyone who has a four year degree to teach here, regardless of experience. And if you visit, you don't really need anything but English to get by in the major cities, especially central Seoul.

I dunno, back home I preferred to hang out in rural places, as I fit in well there. (My comic is basically about rural Wisconsin.) But rural Korea is way too rigidly Confucian to be fun. No tractor pulls, no barn burners, no anti government crackpots, and not nearly the appreciation for motorcycles, beer, backyard wrestling and pickup trucks that I've come to expect from God-fearing rednecks. Plus no one is allowed to own a gun here.
