If I had a big wad of money, one thing I'd like to do with it is establish a huge scientific research institute that would help make life more like science fiction. My research institute would focus on things like: cheap access to space that would make $10 a pound launches possible; artificial gravity, both the centrifical version and the electromagentic version; gene therapy that works; artificial biospheres that work; nanotechnology that works; nuclear fusion, perhaps muon catalyzed; organ regeneration as a permanent replacement for organ transplants.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know! This stuff sounds impossible and stuff. But, as I like to say about such things, I can fantasize about it, can't I?

You should send the money to me.
Hey buddy, you should be a Russian Cosmonaut, and here's why.

just don't develop time travel and teleportation technology… as appealing as it sounds it will have detrimental consequences!

Someone is already working on making a flying car. It's called the MollerM400 :)

They have good working gene therapy methods and some amazing things are being done with nanotechnology. Some of that other stuff is also entirely possible. BUT government regulations are in place that inhibit progress/development (which is important to do to some extent).

So, you'll have to allocate some of your fantasy money to start your own country, entice the interested researchers, secure yourself against protectors/lawsuits, and maybe buy up some human test subjects. ;)

If I had a science research institute, I'd call it Aperture Science.

I have the perfect slogan for you:

We do what we must, because we can

or

We're better than everyone because we have cake*

Note: The cake is a lie

One thing I don't get though…. If you have flying cars, what about the aeroplanes and helicopters?

Why, you convert them to submarines of course. Imagine a helicopter creating a whirlpool with its propellers to sink enemy ships. :)

If I was that rich I'd build a huge underwater city somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. I'd invite all the world's most brilliant minds to work there. They wouldn't have to worry about ethics, nor governments looking over their shoulder. It'd be a great utopia as long as no one communicates with the outside world… :)

If I were that rich I'd kidnap the most brilliant scientists in the world and force them to create a massive steampowered iron spider to ride around canyons, just to be eventually defeated by Will Smith. Fucking Will Smith.

seriously, I think one of the most interesting technologies around is biomedical engineering (duh?), expecially regenerative medicine.

Why not just have Will Smith killed before he can defeat you?

And I'd probably find a way to make a virtual world so that before someone dies, they can live out all their fantasies over an unlimited amount of time within the few seconds remaining and go to the grave with the peace that they have lived their life as full as they could.

I think they already exists. It's called ‘drogs’ or ‘dregs’ or something…

Cyborgs! I'd make cyborgs! In all actuality it would be really great if it were possible to replace missing body parts with something that's just as good or almost as good. Also cyborgs are cool.

i heard that science doesn't really get a big chunk of gov't funding. the world should come together and concentrate on space exploration instead of fighting each other, we should colonize other planets and moons, and when they get well established, we should fight them!! damn Europa colony, think they're hot sh!t.

You know what scientists are doing right now? They're attempting to create a miniature black hole for a split second.

A freakin' BLACK HOLE.

No joke, look it up. I say the future is now.
I'm on the Hairway to Steven, baby!
