Quackcast 360 - How did you start in webcomics?

LISTEN!

In this Quackcast I thought we'd chat about Emma Clare's great and thoughtful topic of webcomic origin stories:
Basically, what was happening to make you start your webcomic on DD, all that stuff in your life back when you first began posting… Emma's newsposts are a great read and they made us all think back to how we began. Pit, Tantz and I have a long talk about our comicing origins. What were YOU doing when you started webcomics? What made you begin?

This week Gunwallace has given us the theme to NanoCritters. It's a minimalist white expanse, dotted with mysterious little marks of sound. What do they mean, what do they represent, is it code? Read NanoCritters to find out!
Also included in the Quackcast are extracts from a lovely Starwars themed rap that Tantz's Greek students performed in English.

My comic started long before the web. I'd been doing self publishing since 1991. Once I figured out HOW to get on line, I started a webcomic on Comicgenesis in April 2006. I soon after found Drunk Duck and had a mirror up by August 2006. My comic has been up on several different sites since then, and I'm back on DD!

When, what's yours? 😉

Great to hear everyone's secret origins, both as comics creators and DD members.

@Emmi Thanks for the idea for the Quackcast! It was really interesting to go back in time like that!

@Plymayer- that's because of the buggy was dates are listed. It doesn't list the day, it just lists the name of the month and then the number of the month. Probably because it was coded wrongly.

This was such an awesome episode to listen to guys! I was really touched by it and by all of your stories of how you got to where you are today. It was an enjoyable retrospective and such a reflection on the wonderful community we have here. Bravo again guys!

Have been drawing comix since before I could talk. Most of us here have. Working grave yard shifts for many, many years. My job keeps me busy but sometime there down times. As I am required to keep alert for my work there needed to be some sort of project (reading/drawing/etc) to allow me to keep my mind active but could be dropped as required. One night back in 2008 got the idea to do a web search for something I had heard of as web comics. Found several sites. Some better than others. Some extremely complicated and some not so much. Settled on DD for a lot of reasons. A fellow member "ipokino" helped me learn the ropes. Great community here on the Duck. Now my profile tells me that I have been a member since November 11, 2008. Not really sure how that is possible as my first posting was the "Real Submarine Sailor" on Nov. 5, 2008 - six days before.
