This one was actually quite popular, so much so that they made a movie or of it staring Harrison Ford. I never saw the movie. Had anyone here seen it? It was back when platinum studios had taken over the site. I can't remember the exact history. Some of these OG members here probably remember. Butt if you joined DD anytime in the last decade you've likely never heard of this one.

I remember Cowboys & Aliens and all those shenanigans with Platinum. Now don't you make me feel old because of it. 😉

GFC was the 2008 recession, the global financial crisis that was started by the housing market bubble bursting

What's a GFC ?

The film followed a completely different story to the comic- the comic story was VERY bland and cliched. So when the film came out they redid the comic with a completely different story that was closer to the movie(I think), and also did a sequel comic. I think they really wanted to make a it a franchise of film with sequels but it didn't do as well as they hoped. I also think they wanted to promote the site with the success of the film initially but did away with that idea when production was completed. By that time Platinum had sold the site to Wowio (managed by Brian Altounian, a former Platinum guy). I think things weren't going well for Platinum at that point. -things went well for Wowio till the GFC hit and tanked all its plans.

Elektro sort of had it right... but there was more to it. Platinum bought the site with the idea of using it to promote various comics and things and to mine for talent and IP for movies and TV. The CEO of the site (Scott Rosenberg), was part of the Men In Black move and knew that came from a comic (I think) and wanted to do the same sort of thing with his Cowboys and Aliens idea. So they had the comic commissioned and put on the site to try and give it a bit of a following ahead of trying to get the movie made. They also had copies of the comic printed out and sold in the shops at discount prices. I myself snagged a signed copy when I went to the Wowio (formally Platinum) offices in LA, Santa Monica 2011. Or maybe it was on the yacht party at comic Con in San Diego 2010? Anyway, through some clever dealing they got the movie made with big names, Daniel Craig WAS indeed QUITE famous at the time because his bond film came out 5 years before.

C&A was a Platinum property that they uploaded on DD more or less as cross promotion. I saw the movie once and I was pretty lukewarm on it.

I read C&A back when it was updating. Even read the whole archive, back when there was an archive. Harrison Ford supposedly did the movie because he'd always wanted to do a western. Daniel Craig wasn't famous yet.

It was a movie with Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, AND Olivia Wilde—pure insanity how they were able to sign three big names on a topic dealing with Cowboys AND Aliens. Definitely ahead of its time, it might have performed better in more recent times, especially with current events. I never saw it, but it has been on my “Must Watch” list for over a decade.
