Kim Luster (of Godstrain fame) commented on her own comic recently that she sometimes puts hands on the wrong way round, with thumbs on the outside and not the inside. With me though it's feet! I've lost count of the number of times Becky has pointed out the big toes in a certain panel are on the outside instead of the inside. This week was no exception, with me waking up to find not only the new page all nicely coloured but also a note from Becky about the toes in panel five. It was also while doing Sarah's toe surgery that I also noticed that an entire leg was missing from panel three!lol What's even more cringeworthy is that I used good refs for both panels!
Somebody once said to me that being professional doesn't mean you stop making silly mistakes, it just means you know better how to hide them! ;)
Next week: Sarah discusses the events at Lucy's with Nikki who has a rather different attitude!
Infected: Haha yea, I can see how Lucy is starting to look more and more like a complete weirdo but I think of her as an innoccent really whose blotted out the bad stuff from her past and trying to be happy again. It's something I'll think more about though now when writing her lines!
Tommym: You're welcome:) I have considered the idea of having Nikki spend a night at the mansion with Lucy's approval. She knows Lucy and they all get on well so it would be far more likely to happen than Sarah inviting her ex to stay! Lovely to see you still pro Janey too tho! :)
Well there's so doggone much mystery and secrets with Lucy, and for better or worse, Janey was more open...er, except for the cheating thing... Actually, I guess I have trouble letting go of stuff when it's over.
Dear Sky, Thanks for your replys to Maryam,Tupapayon Kim DV everyone really! I still also think about Nikki. She probably would love to spend a weekend over at Lucy's :)Maybe Sarah might ask Lucy to double date. Nikki brings a guest? Not that far feched to think foul play regarding Laura. Story is great new twist ,a most modern mystery classic. Janey and Sarah, friends forever :) tommym
Ah!, no, that one has a lot of bodies in front too, bit J.C, is further back, so they have half the painting to utilise. Piero della Francesca's your man - I found him eventually ! ...p.s. thanx for your latest batch of comments on B.E.
Bear: You guys make me feel better by the minute!:) I'm wondering if the version you are referring to is the one by Tissot as it seems to be the most convulted pic I can find on Google. Clearly a popular scene though as there are so many similar versions by different artists!
Check out "The Resurrection of Jesus"...and bugger me, I've forgotten which one of those old Ities did it B-) as it's a classic:
there are sleeping figures in front of the tomb he's riding from.... the number of legs doesn't match the number of bodies. It must be for compositional purposes. And remember, most of these are only started and finished by the 'master', the riff-raff apprentices did much of the real work, so one of them would say "Hey, boss...!", surely ? B-)
Bear: Yes, as Kim mentions too, I'm amazed to think the old masters got these things wrong too as it's something I've never assumed could be possible from such talented people!! I'll certainly be Googling the Birth of Venus later on as that's a painting I've seen dozens of times!
Maryam: I have pondered the idea of a Nikki spin off story several times as I've had scripts for sideline stories that I've never used, such as that relationship with Peter and a side-story from Sarah's grandad about a transexual he once encountered in the army. But as often these sideline stories take about six pages to tell (six weeks in reading time too!) I bypassed them to help the main story move on. It really all boils down to how much enthusiasm I still have left when SS is finally finished.
Tupapayon: That's a good point. In the past readers were often quite split about how much effort Sarah put into her relationship with Janey, although the majority felt Janey's affair was the worst way to bring that out into the open. Now Lucy's the one with the problems so it's like a second chance for Sarah to see if she can save this relationship.
Kim: I agree with what you say about past relationships and I imagine it has a lot to do with how compatible you are in the first place. I've known people who say their previous partner was a big mistake and seem to be constantly at war with their ex especially if children are involved. I never kept in touch with my ex though so I suppose my stubborness to let Janey go completely is something that stems from my romantic side. :)
DV: I won't answer your question as you'll find out soon enough anyway ;) This fingers toes stuff is quite interesting and personally, if a panel looks okay, I assume it's right without thinking to myself I need to ask questions, so I guess other artists are the same. Often I'll ink the page and come back next day and immediately see a glaring mistake and that's my quality control! lol
There are masterpieces in major galleries that don't hold up to anatomical scrutiny - although occasionally it's deliberate for compositional reasons. I hate doing hands and feet- which is why I force myself to. I'm O.K.,as long as they loom large though, it's only when they are smaller detail that I struggle. A nice, 'quiet' page with nicely schemed b/g and Beck's soft colouring.
I'm so excited to see how Nikki feels about all this. To be fair I'm always excited about Nikki, in general. If you ever get bored of Sarah here might I suggest the spinoff of Neatly Nikki? Sounds like a great idea to me ;p
You've done a great job mending legs and toes, I hadn't noticed a thing off. Love the page, hope you're well!
Haha... No, messing up feet is normal for a great artists (look at all the feet in Botticelli's Birth of Venus!) but messing up hands means you see the world differently than Everyone else (as in Wrong)... :D Well, this page is an example of why I always had to have pretty hard breaks with people I fell in love with... Just talking to them beyond the superficial always had that sucking-back-in feeling... then I'd want to have dinner with them, then... other stuff... Looking forward to the Nikki convo, for certain... Lovely page, lower extremities and all...!!
Nikki is going to tell her to stay away from Lucy, isn't she? ... It's not that the hands are on wrong, the hand are perfectly fine, it's the _body_ that is wrong :P ... A recent page of "Grrl Power" had the fingers wrong: Sydney was holding her plate in her left hand, but on the panel where she introduced the back of her hand to the hot fajita skillet the thumb had swapped places with her pinkie

I am pro-Sarah/someone else who hasn't showed up, yet. I don't think Janey is right for her and Lucy gives me the creeps :(

It's great that they can still talk like this: they stopped being a couple, but remained close friends

I'm so glad Sarah is finally out of that house, but are we sure her toes are off because of sky's distraction and not because of some curse? o_O
