SS6 19 The Carlingford Curse 6
skyangel on March 4, 2017
The story so far: Since moving into the family home of her girlfriend Lucy, Sarah is convinced the house is haunted. At first she assumed it was Lucy's previous partner who died there in mysterious circumstances but now she is not so sure! An old couple who live nearby are telling Sarah about the strange legend that surrounds the house.
Here we are at last at Carlingford manor in the days when Lord Carlingford himself lived there. I imagine at this point Carlingford is a bit confused by her rambling and probably doesn't take her words too seriously, as she's clearly affected by her emotions, but…next week he'll understand much better! ;)
Have a nice week! :)

I love love love your comic. The art and storytelling are simply gorgeous!

Hi Nisha, this was a nice surprise! Leo still has that lovely pirate dress you designed for her back in 2011! ;)
PBandJ at 3:19AM, March 5, 2017
I love how you slipped the bust of Poe in there!
skyangel at 7:24AM, March 5, 2017
It was a bit of a last minute thought. Being as this legend was so inspired by the poem I felt it made a nice touch. :)

Lucy might seem to have gotten this curse off him, as she always seems to be restless and somehow depressed.... Maybe! This is very interesting, love where this is going! :D There's something strange about that house.
skyangel at 7:21AM, March 5, 2017
Very Astute of you Linn! The curse is on the name so it's quite possible that affects the house too.
Phantomduck at 8:26PM, March 4, 2017
That poor fool has no idea what he's in for.
skyangel at 7:22AM, March 5, 2017
Haha He really doesn't!
moizmad at 2:23PM, March 4, 2017
So put that in your pipe and smoke it Carlingford, ha ha ha!
skyangel at 4:52PM, March 4, 2017
You have no idea how close you are Mo! :)
tommym at 11:17AM, March 4, 2017
Dear Sky, @ Bean, Thats a great idea! Sky, why don't you start appearing in a panel here and there? After all these years I/We dont know what you look like. Unless thats you in your avatar, minus the wings of course:) DV Yeah, you are right, his victums deserve justice! tommym

Haha I misread Bears comment to mean me putting Hitchcock in the crowd. It's kinda weird really but Sarah has always represented me anyway only as a much younger version, so it always feels like it's me in the story anyway. Maybe I will tho and just see if anyone spots the similarity!
fredhedges at 8:02AM, March 4, 2017
Gorgeous! Those ladies' dresses are beautifully rendered. And crapping in the food - adding insult to injury!
skyangel at 4:27PM, March 4, 2017
Haha yea, I couldn't resist. I think these'birds' must be a combination of Hitchcock's ones and the ones in Mel Brooks spoof 'High Anxiety' Thanks for the typo shout out btw, that one came as quite a surprise as I thought there was only one version!
KimLuster at 7:53AM, March 4, 2017
Dang Sky, this is just... (can't find a superlative that's good enough)!! The scene, the art, the flow, the prose, the mood, everything just hits!! And a Poe bust and quote to close it all out!! *Stands and Claps*
skyangel at 5:01PM, March 4, 2017
All Superlatives are good enough for me Kim!:) Tbh I spent so much time rewriting the script on this page that I loathe it now. I really wanted to borrow lines from the poem and integrate them with my curse. I even had one version where her lines kept rhyming and were much more poetical but every draft was hideously text based and trimming it all down to a few key lines was a nightmare so I have to admit I'm not that happy with the final page. But you made me feel much better about, so thanks for that. :)

Don't feel sorry for Carlingford, Tommy, he doesn't deserve it, feel sorry for the others affected by his actions ... Yes, noticed that as well Bear (about the "love too far") but wasn't sure ... is that _supposed_ to be an image of a bird in the eye of the crow in panel five?
DarkVisor at 3:44AM, March 5, 2017
Oh yes, the classic 'flying v' to indicate birds in flight
skyangel at 4:39PM, March 4, 2017
That other bird in the reflected eye was actually pure coincidence this time. I wasn't very happy with that panel as the crow looked too flat and boring and I wasn't happy with the way the text fitted either so I was much more focussed on that than anything else and it was only while cleaning up the scan that I noticed the eye was bird shaped! Carlingford does come to a pretty grisly end btw but I did feel that he deserved it as he has no remorse for what happened that night. ;)
bexlicious at 3:46PM, March 4, 2017
Good eyes DV, I saw that too but then I blow the page up big to color it. And that might be birds in flight on her earring as well. Sneaky Sky :D
Infected Blood at 7:15AM, March 4, 2017
Ha! A curse, yes :) And look a that bust of Poe at the very end! Beautiful page!
skyangel at 4:29PM, March 4, 2017
IB: Hehe The next two pages show how her curse takes effect. It felt too good to skip over! :)
BearinOz at 5:38AM, March 4, 2017
Disappointing you didn't use the other collective noun for our black feathered friends " a "Murder of crows" B-) ...and, sorry, but I am a little OCD - "...love TOO far away..." B-) p.s. Hitchcock would love you I reckon !...maybe you should start appearing in your own backgrounds !
skyangel at 4:22PM, March 4, 2017
Haha Maybe I should sneak a little Hitch in somewhere! The term 'Murder' though isn't technically correct as it's origin was comic rather than serious so I hesitated about it's usage. My final decision not to was based on the feeling that if I did, someone would pick me up on it and tell me it wasn't technically accurate!. Thanks for the typo pointer btw, that's the one I always have to watch out for most! :)
fredhedges at 7:59AM, March 4, 2017
Also, sorry, you mean "horde" rather than "hoard".
