SS6 60 Ron's story 10
skyangel on Dec. 24, 2017
By this time next year SS should be completed but I've said that to Becky the last two years running and it was only around Easter this year that I broke down the remaining storyline into scripts and realised just how many pages we still needed to do! For example, on my original timeline I had written ‘Ron tells Sarah what really happened that night’ like it would only take a page to do and here we are on page 10, that's a fifth of the year alone!
Anyways, now that Ron has almost finished confirming what we already half suspected anyway, it's getting to the point where Sarah finally corners him and everything starts to take a darker turn. As always, each reader will have to be the judge of how good or bad they think Ron and his wife really are, but we will also witness the real consequences of their actions too which will no doubt sway or confirm your opinions.
Becky and me will take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you again in the New Year. Have fun guys!! xxx

Good or bad? That's part of what I love about SS - there's rarely a simple yes/no like that; and it's just Ron trying to work out a screwed-up mess of circumstances.

Doggo: When writing the original script for this partciular chapter it fell on paper rather more like just an ordinary adventure story but as so much of it hinges on Ron and his actions it's slowly turned the house from being the scene of the crime to the courtroom as well which isn't something I'd originally envisaged. It will certainly be interesting to see how readers view Ron overall when the whole story is completed.

Not really sure what Ronnie could have done differently: having Lucy believe Laura died _has_ to be vastly better than "Great news Honey, Laura didn't die, but she wants nothing more to do with any of us and won't be coming home, ever!"
DarkVisor at 9:29AM, Dec. 31, 2017
You can't ever really 'forgot' someone you had feelings for, anyone who says otherwise has never really felt that way. You can move on with your life, butt if that person _truly_ meant anything to you, then you can't forget them. When someone dies, specially suddenly, you will always be left yearning for the confirmation of their love, and sometimes for forgiveness, so Lucy's lingering feelings and attachment to Laura (or the memory thereof) is understandable
skyangel at 2:47AM, Dec. 31, 2017
DV: I think you sum up Ron's predicament very nicely. I've never seen him as an out and out bad guy but just a guy under pressure who in trying to bring back family harmony single handed, has made an extremely bad decision which he will later regret.
skyangel at 2:47AM, Dec. 31, 2017
Denof: That's a very thought provoking piece you've written there, and again your observations are well founded. I believe you are correct in saying neither Helen or Ron know about Lucy's burden of guilt at the moment as Lucy pretty much told Sarah, and only Sarah everything she remembered on the night of her recall. It's such an important point though that Sarah will definitely bring it up when she delivers her summing up at the end of Ron's testimony. **** Lucy's detachment is another thing and possibly more of a character trait than anything else but my feelings when writing this were, that when Sarah first met Lucy, Lucy was still sufferring from PTSD and her rather silly behaviour is a defence against plunging back into the deep dark depression she fell into after Laura's 'death'. Lucy never forgot Laura as easily as her parents hoped or expected and together with the guilt of being partly responsible it's made the yearning for Laura's forgiveness and confirmation of her love

On the one hand, I agree. Ron didn’t have a really good hand to play...then, but it’s a lot better than what he has now. I understand that he was/is angry, and that Laura didn’t want to go back. Of course, Helen has been the gasoline on the fire from the get-go. There are still two very big pieces to this puzzle. One, Lucy’s “detachment” has been an anchor on her whole life. At least, the evidence points in that direction. That might be even more related to the second point. Lucy doesn’t just think Laura died. In her own head, Lucy thinks she killed her, or at least caused her death. It isn’t clear to me that Ron or Helen know this piece of the puzzle, and I sincerely hope that if they don’t, they might have chosen a different path. I doubt it, but one can hope in the the redemption of even fictional characters.

New page - Nice present on Xmas day ! I guess the 'detached' effect on panel 2 is down to Bex. Nice touch.
skyangel at 3:20AM, Dec. 26, 2017
Bear: I'd already done the inked page 2 weeks before so it was easy for me but Becky has to be very careful how she uses up her energy and this time of year keeps us all busy enough anyway so I knew she would be under pressure to do this but she came through anyway so the update is all thanks to her really. :)
moizmad at 4:31PM, Dec. 24, 2017
Sounds easy enough....maybe not.
skyangel at 3:21AM, Dec. 26, 2017
It makes it much easier if Laura agrees :)
Infected Blood at 3:39PM, Dec. 24, 2017
Oh, now I really wonder if Sarah will tell Lucy everything about this or play along with Ron's and Helen's narrative... What a mess! Happy holidays!
tommym at 7:00AM, Dec. 28, 2017
Dear Sky, DV, Seems you are correct about Sarah getting Ron to come clean. Forgot about Laura's concern over the sister/Ouija board situation tommym
skyangel at 3:27AM, Dec. 26, 2017
Infected: It certainly puts Sarah in an awkward position and when Ron reveals the full details of the agreement next week she may very well feel she ought to let things be, but as Tommym points out, Sarah has a high moral stance on telling the truth and will certainly not feel comfortable living with such a lie. But as DV says, Sarah is much more likely to urge Ron to come clean than just drop him in it. :)
DarkVisor at 7:47AM, Dec. 25, 2017
No, don't believe that _Sarah_ will tell Lucy, but she _would_ pressure _Ronnie_ into telling Lucy
tommym at 6:55AM, Dec. 25, 2017
Dear Infected. I am fairly certain Sarah will tell Lucy everything. She is very much the good girl. Sarah is moral and principled and will not be a party to an on going deception:) tommym
tommym at 7:47AM, Dec. 24, 2017
Dear Sky, Love the ghostly look in second panel. How could Helen or anyone for that matter think things would be as if Laura never arrived? Both parents started a horrid deception. When Lucy finds out (Sarah tells her) she is going to hit the ceiling. I forgot why Laura went along with it. Merry Christmas to everyone! :) tommym
skyangel at 3:53AM, Dec. 26, 2017
Tommym: Personally I feel you're right to blame both parents. Ron is going through a lot of emotional upheaval at this point and his wife Helen is piling on the pressure as well as hinting at a possible solution. It's clearly going to be bad news if Lucy finds out the truth! :)
skyangel at 3:53AM, Dec. 26, 2017
DV: Yes, and that's a very important point because it makes her less of a problem in going along with the plan and also suggests she helped it work. Two key factors here are that Laura was already shutting Lucy out of her life over her obsession with the Ouija board, and then believing that she had been sleeping with her own sister must have made her love feel repulsive. :)
DarkVisor at 7:50AM, Dec. 25, 2017
Read the page again: _Laura_ rejected _them_, she didn't want to go back, and seeing how she wasn't related, she had no reason to (other than Lucy, but it sounds like she rejected her as well), Laura probably didn't know what they told Lucy, or didn't care
Emevsa at 6:48AM, Dec. 24, 2017
Just caught up again! Such a complicated situation for them all! I hope they have the chance at a happy Christmas this year! A very Merry holidays to you both!
skyangel at 3:12AM, Dec. 26, 2017
Emevsa: Thanks. This is as complicated as it gets, as from this point on Ron focuses on making the idea of Laura disappear work.
KimLuster at 6:48AM, Dec. 24, 2017
Yeah, no matter how much Ron's been growing on me, it's hard to put a good spin on this!! Wow, I looked back a bit - it's been nearly four years since we first me Lucy. It just doesn't seem like it!!
skyangel at 2:46AM, Dec. 26, 2017
Kim: I know! Webcomic time is kind of surreal isn't it! This is why I never felt I could waste too much time on sideline stories too because even a short 4 page one would mean a month's departure from the main storyline in reading time.
BearinOz at 6:38PM, Dec. 24, 2017
No ! It doesn't eh?
