SS6 74 Lucy hears the truth

I saw a lovely film on Netflix during the week called ‘Final Portrait’. I'm a big fan of Geoffrey Rush anyway but his portrayal here of the artist Giaccometti had me captivated. Artists are renown for beating themselves up over their work and I see it more here than anywhere. At any level of expertise we all have our good and bad days; art we struggle with and art we can feel disappointed in just days after having felt elated about it! Some artists are very vocal about it (winks at Kim) and others like me prefer to keep quiet and hope nobody notices! But watching this film about a man who was held in high esteem for his ability and making the sort of money most of us can only fantasise about, it was interesting to see that the one thing that really mattered to him most was getting his art right, and not just right but good enough to impress himself. I love that because it's so true and one of the loveliest lines for me was when this revered and highly paid artist threw down his brush and exclaimed, ‘It’s all gone wrong today, I'm painting like a child!' because it reminds me that at any level we WILL always have days like that.
Anyways, next week it's a reunion with Nikki as Sarah leaves Carlingford and moves in with her while Lucy decides what to do about Laura.

Heartbreaking. Poor Lucy, her facial expressions and her body language say it all. I wonder if Sarah is hoping to just see the end of this and run away or if she has any hope for Lucy to stay with her. I am heavily leaning toward the first, though.

IB: I think we all want out of Carlingford now! lol I for one am sick of drawing the place and I miss some of the old characters too so I'm looking forward to adding a few pages in the 'new' chapter just to help round off everyone's stories. Sarah will leave Carlingford for sure, next page I think and then she can finish tidying up from Nikki's which gives us more Nikki time to indulge too. :)

Well, first, I'm gonna quit being so vocal about it LOL!!! Second, wow... what a scene! So emotional! So... everything! The pained facial expressions!! The sense of looming... Just excellent! And... there's the tiniest bit of hope for Lucy and Sarah, it seems... but we'll see! Masterful storytelling here Sky!!

Kim: Haha whenever the topic comes up, you are always the one I think of first! ;) I think I'm far more sensitive than you (ask Becky!) in that I suffer enough over my own 'failings' as it is but if someone else points out MORE than I'm aware of I kinda lose hope of thinking I'll ever be any good. I will confess to you that I've spent most of this page keep playing with panels 1 and 4 because they are the two I enjoyed doing the most but also kept going back to, to make adjustments, even after the colouring!

Dear Sky, Very nice expression of shock in first panel. I can feel Lucys' pain in last panel. All of us have gone through that at one time or other in our lives. I can see Lucy asking Laura "How could you do this to me?" She must be both angry and happy at the same time. Very happy to hear Sarah is moving in with Nikki. I hope they sleep in the same bed, and I really hope one thing leads to another and they wind up making not passionate love :) tommym

Hmmm, "...future depends on.." If it's me, that phrase usually means "kiss your arse goodbye" B-) I've "let myself off" a lot with my art, for expediency's sake...but like so many on these sites, I sometimes feel like going back to fix a lot of it. At a smidgeon shy of 630 pages, even 10%;s a bit daunting though ! B/

Bear: I once mentioned around chapter 3-4 that I was thinking of going over the first chapter and redrawing it as my skills had improved so much since, but several people said I should leave it alone as it was nice to see how my art progresses over the years and I felt they had a good point. I'm always fascinated to see the early versions of cartoon characters and how much they have become rounded over the years. I would always fix a typo though at any time!
