SS6 75 Waiting for Nikki
skyangel on April 14, 2018
I always find self-perception of my own art a difficult thing to get my head around. When I look at the art of people less experienced than myself it makes me feel more confident about my own and when I look at the art of people more talented than myself I wonder if I could ever reach their standard in my lifetime. I just always know I'm somewhere in the middle! It all feels very healthy though. I still love to look at the art that inspired me as a child and weirdly when I do look at that artwork again I always feel a long long way from ever being able to equal them, but it's also a nice feeling because these same artists have inspired me to do better for a whole lifetime and although it's a nice feeling to impress people with what I can do at times, nothing equals that excitement of being blown away by the work of another.
So saying, I'm not in love with this page because my heart was totally on next weeks page, where Lucy reunites with Laura, and this page just happened to be in the way and it probably shows. Thanks to Becky's skilful colouring though it does look so much more exciting now than when I first handed it to her.
nuff said.
Have a nice week! :)

I like the detail given to the artwork in Nikki's apartment, appropriate to her artistic talent. And I'm wondering about the picture in the upper right of panel 7. Have I seen it before? "Princess" something?
skyangel at 12:57AM, April 22, 2018
Fred: I always enjoy doing Nikki's apartment as it's like a little art studio. Talking about being inspired by the art of other people, the comic in panel 7 is a 60's British comic called Princess Tina which for a while used full page paintings for it's weekly covers. I had to mute the image here as it was too vivid, but I wanted to include it as she reminds me so much of Sarah.

Nic and Ben: I do think that's the best way to feel because you do have to feel a sense of achievement over the years but at the same time it's nice to keep that feeling that you can do better as it drives you on. I always feel for Nikki as she's such a good and loyal friend to Sarah and yet she does get a bit used and abused by her too.

I know that feeling, of a 'filler/transition' page being a chore - but mine are a LOT more noticeable than yours. Probably being a joint effort helps, but this page has 'mood', then well-detailed panels, normal up to standard characters. Don't knock yourself ! B-)

p.s. 'Quoth' post on your faceache timeline B-)

Bear: Thanks. I think what frustrates me most sometimes is that I have pretty set ideas on how I want to do the page and yet from the first line I feel it's not capturing what I expected and that disappoints me. I always feel better when I get on to the next page because it allows me to close the door on this one!

And when I see people as talented as you two are, to even slightly suggest your stuff might not be perfect, it makes me feel better haha!! I was thinking back when we first met Lucy in that shop, how bubbly she was, the near misses when Sarah was trying to meet her, and the long slow descent to here... It hits so real, as I've had a couple relationships follow a similar course (of course, I didn't have haunted mansions, ghost gypsies , and creepy crows to deal with...)... So, while I look forward to seeing Lucy and Laura reunite, I also so feel for Sarah... Maybe... Nikki...? Nah... Maybe.. haha. Excellent story-crafting to make us care so...

Kim: Relationship breakdowns are rather a fact of life for most of us I guess especially in our earlier years of dating. I have two I remember vividly so once again my urge to relate to real life is strong when writing Sarah's thoughts but I'm trying to not let them run away with me! :)

That's why you have us :D

IB: Thanks :) If I struggle too much with a page I always seem to have a negative feel towards it afterwards!

Oh no, my box of Kleenex is empty, I'm running to the store!

Mo: It gets worse! ;)

The art on this page still looks great, the first four panels look well done (don't feel bad about the third one, drawing a car at that distance would give _any_ artist trouble), the next two are good as well (enjoying all the little details in the room when she is sitting, just thinking, and enjoying her cuppa)
DarkVisor at 9:22AM, April 18, 2018
Understand, butt you still managed to do a great job, the pair of you (Becky is good, butt she still has to work with something good to begin with :D)

DV: This was a weird page for me because I didn't have much enthusiasm for it in the first place and then when I started on it even the sketching of simple stuff like the lion was hard work. I was really surprised when it came back coloured as Becky has put so much life into it.
