SS6 82 A walk with Laura
skyangel on June 2, 2018
As Bear pointed out last page, this comic has always been blessed with a really lively comments section which for me personally has been the most rewarding part of the whole adventure over the last 10 years. When we first started out as an LGBT comic there was such a desperate shortage in the mainstream market anyway and the birth of webcomics was really the cork out of the bottle for so many of us, as both readers and writers. The most wonderful thing about our particular comic though is that despite all the issues with bugs, lost data, re-designing etc. and the near collapse of the site when it was formerly DrunkDuck, all the original comments have survived and make a fascinating historical snapshot of how the LGBT community especially embraced this new medium; swapping new discoveries, promoting each others work, and most importantly relating to the characters thoughts and feelings in a way that few people in minority groups had ever had the chance to do before.
In recent years things have changed a lot as we all know and it seems the ability to read comics via mobile phones has caused the biggest change in readers leaving comments as typing long messages is so much harder than using a proper sized keyboard. I imagine one day the Duck might introuce a ‘heart’ and ‘like’ system like they have on FB so people on mobiles can interact with less stress but at the end of the day nothing beats that personal touch of leaving a thought in your own words and connecting with another like minded reader, often in a completely different country!
Next week: Sarah realises just how badly Laura's been affected by Rons threats!
Have a nice week ;)

Dear Sky, She really thinks he wanted her dead ? What changed his mind? tommym
skyangel at 2:33PM, July 7, 2018
Tommym: I think it was being interrupted by the Gypsy woman that either ruined his plan or brought him to his senses. :)

Yeah, time to get Ron a dose of his own medicine.

Mo: Start digging hon! ;)

Yea, comments. I wish B-) ....I'm nearly 24 hours late, instead of 1 of the first. Been as sick as the proverbial deep sea parrot. Took the lappie to bed, but the battery ran out. I was always 50/50 on whether Ron really contemplated murder...more like a big scare that could've gone wrong. Yes, I'm sure that pub name is a pun - as are plenty of others "The Drop Inn", "The Fawcett Inn" (Portsmouth), "The Nobody Inn"(Devon) for e.g. - there's a "Drunken Duck" in Cumbria, btw B-)

DV: That's a good point. Laura certainly seems convinced he meant it!

Bear: Sorry to hear you are unwell. I hope by the time you read this you are feeling better as nothing saps your morale worse than being ill. I'm fortunate in that I have a powerpoint right by my bed. I've lost work a couple of times in the past while working on a flat battery which as you know means if the mains lead comes out, it just crashes! so now I tend to use mains all the time to make my battery last as long as I can

Personally? Still on the 'big scare, butt make it seem real' side of the 50/50, if he _really_ wanted to kill her, it wouldn't take long for two well-fit thugs to run a scared girl down (and don't mean 'run down' in a car)

Happy Pride month, btw!

IB: Yes indeed! :)

I agree with Laura, I'm sure he would have killed her. Simply Sarah was among the very first, very few lesbian webcomics ever available and it's remained the only webcomic I've ever stuck with. It is part of my coming out process to my family, friends and the rest of the world and, more recently, it partly inspired me to make my own webcomics. The comment section has always been a blast, both because the content of the comic is intriguing, so it pulls comments out of everyone's fingers and because skyangel is very good at handling them - always cheerful, graceful and fun. Thanks for all these years!

IB: That's a really lovely comment, thankyou. I still have such fond memories of starting all this and how it's connected me to so many people over the years. This was my first real venture into writing too so it's certainly been an amazing adventure for me.

I need to ask... I lived in Hastings for a long while and a lot of the backgrounds look incredibly familiar. Like today's for example, looks a lot like Rye Harbour... https://www.rye-harbour.co.uk/images/directory/27436-1.jpg Is that where the story is set... Or, perhaps, set in "Walmington-On-Sea" - The fictional town that Dad's Army was set in, which was based loosely on Hastings?
skyangel at 5:48AM, June 9, 2018
Chrystal: Hi, No, but it was a lovely thought as I loved that show! Most of my references come from Southend-on-sea and the surrounding Essex area. This particular place is called Battlesbridge and the river that runs through it is called the River Crouch.

It's weird, but I don't mainly think of LGBT when thinking of this comic. In mean, of course I know it's here, and is a main focus, and it filled a need for trailblazing, but to me, this comic is more about fascinating people, in all their complicated glory, falling in love, dealing with imperfections, theirs and others! That it takes place in gorgeous settings rendered by extremely talented artists (ie. this page!) makes it one of the best story experiences one can have, webcomic or otherwise!
skyangel at 2:02AM, June 9, 2018
Kim: Thanks. You're always so generous in your comments! ;) The very first chapter was a head on, one to one gay romance, pretty much in line with the rest on here but each chapter after that I felt an urge to go somewhere else with the main story which has been nice in the long run as it's made the characters lives more about just relationships in general than any specific type of coupling.

Ni and Ben: Haha I might have to put in a line about Sarah giving the other car back. Lucy and Laura came in the mini so they might want something to get home in. ;)
fredhedges at 7:41AM, June 2, 2018
Fabulous backgrounds, very evocative. I can smell the air. I wonder if Lucy's all ok with this extended tête-à-tête.
skyangel at 1:13AM, June 9, 2018
Fred: I expect she's intensely curious but hopefully she might just think it's just a short heart to heart about how awkward they both feel in this unusual situation. :)
