Eating crow is another term for regret…comes from a story about a soldier who shot at a crow during quiet time and killed it, his (officer? Commander? I forget) compliments his shooting, and asks to see his gun for a moment. He then turns the gun on the soldier and comands that he eat a piece of the dead crow, raw. After that, he gives the soldier his gun back…wherein HE turns the gun on his higher up, and makes him eat the remainder ^_^

I always thought the term "eating crow" was like "eating your own words." Thanks for clearing that up, the phrase has come up more often then one would think, and has constantly confused me. Thank you!

Huh... That story must be from way before they started beating the souls out of the jacka$$es in bootcamp... Or it's the REASON they started beating the souls out of them! o.O Although, in that particular case, I'd be on the officer's side. 'Cept I'd probably strip him down and have the other soldiers use him as target practice... Null and void I dislike soldiers...

tref h: more often the term is used to mean "a dope, foolish person, or one who is manipulated" basically to describe someone who is a jerk or just really irritating. He's using it in that context, buuut I can see using it to mean the other thing because he is being one for sure!
