This page reminds me of the TV show "Parallax". Specifically, the episode where the villain Betti showed Katherine, one of the heroes, a world that she'd "blandished" by killing everyone who deviated from the norm.
It was just as creepy.
In the movie "The Matrix" the AI's created a less perfect reality when they discovered that humans couldn't believe in a perfect world in which everyone is -smiling-.
Thanks. Actually, I've read quite a bit so I knew it was the funeral clothing. I was just wondering why the funeral clothing looked like that. And which came first? Character design or the idea that the funeral attire looked like that? Don't have to answer that. I'm just pondering to myself.
It's the funeral garb of his home world(as seen here). I hate to spell it out like this, but it's the irony of Smiley's disposition. For a guy who's always happy, he's in constant mourning.
Saaayyy... This chapter is called "The Mourning"! I wonder if that ties in.
A perfect world is one where you don't have to live in fear of being caught lapsing in your smile.
I may be a happy-go-lucky, all-around cheery guy, but even I can't smile 24/7.
Besides, in a world where everyone smiles all the time, smiling loses its significance and becomes meaningless. I don't know about you, but I'd certainly consider that a negative.
This page has been up on Comic Genesis all week, mostly due to my own error. In the end, though, it seemed like a good compromise. The story got to continue as scheduled, and the cover, which we were all excited to see finished, got to spend most of the week absorbing hits.
So, the Smiling Man's world has no pain, disease, crime, or suffering, and all it cost the people were their individual liberties. Hmm, this guy should run for President, because I think he'd win.

When the world is so perfect, its time to check if you are dreaming, because something HAS to be wrong...
