I really, really like most of my villians as such I try and use them sparingly and focus more on the heroes so I don't over use my villians. I think less is more generally speaking with black hat characters so I really enjoy pages like this.
I myself wonder if Gram snuck in here and just had to take out those two guard to get in or if he fought his was up there like in Cowboy Bebop. I leave it up to you to decide how it went.
I suppose he could've used the wipes, but, of course, if he's all full of rage and barging in, the idea that he'd stop to clean himself doesn't quite seem befitting. Another thing to account for is the size of the property. A large estate may have much more security than a smaller building of a much more specific purpose. Gram is, of course, a show off, but also a reputably skilled adventurer. It could go either way, but I stick to my original conclusion.
Or used some of those magic wipes, it does seem like his style to pause after handing out a beating to tidy himself up a bit before making his dramatic entrance.
@Marscaleb: I get your point, just i don't agree. Women are his personal thing, and immoral is still far from evil. He does not make any evil thing so far (my opinion only).
And because i am everything but brief, if you (or anyone else) want to discuss this topic, im available on PQ.
PS: Psssst, you forget to rate! :-)
@LordBorel
Of course Gram is a bad guy! Hello, he sleeps with hundreds of women; that's classically immoral! Bet he's not paying his child support either.
What, you think he's a good guy just because he dresses like one, and talks respectfully? That's what evil people do! Don't you ever watch CNN or Fox News? They ACT like good guys so people will vote for them!
Did Gram sneak in or fight in?
My bet is that he just walked in, and most of the dopes he came across knew to just stand aside and let him through. But the guards right outside the chamber knew they couldn't let him in, and so they got tromped.
That's my belief.
At the front gate:
Gram: (Angrily) "I'm here to see Knives! Let me in!"
Guard: "(Holy crap he's pissed!) Yes sir, Mr Trellion!"
That's totally how it went down.
I read between author comment lines now, but does that mean Gram is villain too? ;-) He sure looks like madman here.
Typical guard setup is few outside building and few in front of each important door (like treasury, boss office), so i think he knocked down more in the entrance, but not inside (except those we can see here).
Missed Ace already, but who else in this comics have heart necklace? Lol
Hmm... Well, I've analyzed and rationalized and come to the conclusion that he snuck in, for the following reasons:
1.) There are no scratches, scuff marks or the like on Gram's clothes, which seems unlikely, even if he is incredibly skilled.
2.) He doesn't have his weapon drawn, which would indeed come in handy if he were to fight his way through all the security. I doubt he'd deprive himself of the advantage.
3.) If he had fought his way there, it would make more sense for him to bring that up, specifically, to express his abilities, rather than just his reputation, although it depends on exactly how he's threatening knives.
And as for the villain thing I completely agree, save one exception, that being that you can write an intriguing villain that makes frequent appearances, provided his/her identity remains unknown, his/her personality is enigmatic, his/ her supposed motives may often contradict their actions, etc... But to do it right, you need to reveal just a sliver of their character at a time, and frequently raise questions. Even in this case, less is more.
I agree that classic confrontation scenes like this are tricky to write, as they usually necessitate a lot of talking, but the longer the dialogue goes on the more they get on the verge of getting generic. But you did an excellent job again. You really have a knack for getting the timing exactly right.
haha, of course gram has to add with the ladies. i think its nice to focus on some villains. although i feel like a lot of your heroes could be villains from another persons perspective, lol
I agree on bad guys, if you use them too much they kinda become pathetic (like team rocket in Pokemon was neat in the first few shows but just became pathetic) anyway I like these villians very well done :-)
The guards had to be taken out simply because one -always- takes out at least a few guards when storming in to see someone, that's simply how it's done. Gram has so far proven to be a very by-the-book gentleman adventurer, after all.
I imagine Gram has a standing invitation. The guards were just new and asked if he had an appointment (and Gram was a bit frustrated). I could believe they've had some run ins in the past, and maybe Gram even did a little work for Knives in the past?
But, yeah, the guards make it a bit hard to rationalize that. I just really like to think that Gram has quite a few skeletons in his closet. Ones that aren't related to his way with the ladies.

Gram could've fought his way in wearing a dirt & tear resistant coat.

My theory? Those were the only two guards that he had to get past. The others either didn't care or were asleep.
