Nick: I'd like to say thanks to the individuals who added the last few tropes to Cwen's TV Tropes page. That is one of the best ways after linking to get CQ known to new readers. It really helps out the comic a lot.

I consider it a personal challenge to see how many pages I can do like this were we inset a pop culture reverence without disrupting the story. Not many non-modern fantasy comics do pop culture wel Order of the Stick and Girl Genius being two notable exceptions and I feel even OotS misses the mark every once in a while. So while I do look for ways to make jokes like this, I try to be very careful with it. After all a well written comic like OotS can drop the ball once in a while then it is clear that it isn't an easy thing to do.

Her reaction there in the last panel isn't entirely clear to me. It seems she could be startled and reeling back, or amused and flailing about like a happy dimwit with her new found power. I'm sure it doesn't really matter, but her expression, at least to me, could fall on either side. The smile is what throws me off. "GHAAAAAA!" isn't all too specific, either... But interesting back story, none the less. You maintain my intrigue. Also, I believe the reference is pulled of well enough. A tad blatant, but I got a kick out of the video game references in the testing facility, so, non objectively, I don't see why this one need be any more so. I just haven't actually read or seen any of the Space Odyssey novels or books is all, so I'm only aware of the whole monolith thing, primarily through other references. Oh, and Void is right. I'm actually surprised I missed it myself. I almost always catch those types of things. Oh well.

cavemen look so much classier with wings! i guess this is how all weapons were discovered tho.... I apologize for not getting a lot of the pop culture references. I feel like I'm actually learning a bunch thanks to this comic :)

Genial idea with prehistoric "cavefairies". Some people convinced us they evolved instantly into superior beings, bah! I'm always saying girls are more violent, but trying not to say it too loud. Head exploder probably posses same gene of being mindlessly abused as Riddly. :-)

Y'know I always thought that 2001 a Space Odyssey needed more HAL 9000 scenes and stripping out the extraneous parts that just go on for too long. Apparently all it actually needed more head explosions.
