Chapter 11 page 16 - She always assumes the worse

My first comic I did as an adult with the intention of sharing it on the web was called “Chibi World”. It, as you might guess, a chibi style drawn in pencil and later some inks. Originally I drew it panel on panel on the back of old Dave Barry tear away callenders of which I had gotten several extra that year. The story was terrible a mash up of anime and video games, mostly Final Fantasy and Evangellion both of which were popular at the time. It ran for less then 50 issues of which I only pust up a little over half.

What I mostly learned from chibi world was comic timing. How to pace dialog, jokes, and move a story. I also learned that I hate drawing backgrounds and generally lost interest in anything that didn't have a lot of personality.

I decided to stop Chibi World largely due to a desire to do something more original. The work I was doing on Chibi world was hard to follow and I wasn't attracting the sort of following I wanted. Frequently people wouldn't get the jokes or fan boys would get upset. I had a frequent commenter who insisted on correcting me on each page whenever I used the name “Clod” on my parody Cloud Strife character.

I did get a lot of support of chibi world from people, but honestly the series probably didn't warrent it. A lot of friends said nice things to make me feel better but I quickly realized the comic wasn't on par with the comic I enjoyed. So I discontinued chibi world, got some serious art supplies and started work on a new comic trying to improve the quality of my work and correct what I saw as the failings of chibi world.
