Due East - Book Five Cover
dueeast on Oct. 21, 2008
This is the start of our collaboration with JustNoPoint (Devon Legacy). JNP will be doing colors this issue, starting with our mysterious cover. I did the pencils and inks as usual.
We're delighted to have JNP onboard and we hope you enjoy his excellent style as we wind through Book 5.
My wife came up with the idea for this cover and we brainstormed together quite a bit to come up with what each mirror represented, at least to us, symbolically.
I'm curious to see what you, the readers, think about the content and style of the cover. :)
I'll answer comments as they come in.

Too deep for me. It looks gorgeous, though!

Very nicely done. Looks like there will be some definite ups and downs ahead.

JustNoPoint: You see, the original sign was lettered backwards -- to catch the attention of drivers, um, in their, uh, REAR VIEW MIRRORS! Yeahhhhhh, that's what happened! I'll, uh, fix that later..? o_0 amanda: Thanks! I agree, JNP did do a great job with the sunlight in the first mirror. It's a cool effect. Tantz Aerine: Thanks. I'd be curious to see what theories you've come up with so far... :)

Very intriguing cover! If I wasn't in a hurry I'd type out a theory for each mirror :)

Great teamwork, you guys! I love the shadowing, and I particularly like the sunlight in the first mirror ^.^ Very cool!

Wait a sec... if it's a mirror then wouldn't the for sale sign text be mirrored? I thought this was a neat idea when I saw it btw ^^

usedbooks: Thanks. Yeah, the overlap effect was fun to pencil and ink and JNP went all-out on it. I think it turned out nicely. smkinoshita: Yeah, the fire's the only obvious one -- or is it? lol! There is actually a very important aspect of the story in each representation of these symbolic mirrors. But you're right -- you and the other readers should be able to figure them out over the course of Book 5. :)

That is a mysterious cover all right. I get a few of them (like the fire, duh) but I think I'm missing the point on most. I think we'll figure it out as we go along though.

Oh this is a neat cover. I don't know what it all means but it feels very artistic and symbolic. (I especially like the overlap effect of the diamond-shaped window.)
