Oh the irony!
Thanks for looking this week. This whole flashback sequence at the Eternity Spire was sort of inspired partly by the Kurosawa movie Rashomon. In case you're not familiar with it, the story basically deals with a murder trial and shows how four different witnesses all have four completely different, yet honest accounts of the same event. I didn't intend it at first, but with Kyri as the first person narrator, this scene sort of developed into a Rashomon-type thing as I got into it. I'm sure Jon would have a completely different account of what happened. And that's something I may explore later… maybe. . . since I work from a very loose outline and sometimes the characters surprise me as go to draw the next page.
Thanks again to all of you who stopped by and left comments last week. Sometimes I feel like I'm “paid” in comments. That is, I feel rewarded to see that others are reading my stuff.
@chaves - Thanks. What's SAI? Is that Abobe Illustrator?
@theends - Thanks for stoppin' by. I dig your art too. : )
@Jabali - Thanks for the compliment on the story. It means alot.
@TheMidge28 - I appreciate your support as always. I was down on the writing last week because the page took me two weeks to complete as I was rewriting the narration and changing panels over and over. There goes the buffer! LOL.
@mattchee - Thanks! And since we're talking art recipes, I achieved the fade effect by putting the figure on a separate layer and then used the “white” pen setting in Manga Studio to “dirty up” the lines and spaces.
@darkwaterfrey - Thanks so much. I appreciate your support.
@machinehead - LOL. You're getting warm.
@khard12 - Thanks. I personally cannot think of anything more nightmarish than working in the corporate world. I've personally been scarred (or is that scared) for life.
@The Gravekeeper - Thanks alot! You give me courage to maybe hit up some publishers later. But it's such a pipe dream with heavy odds against it. However if worse comes to worst, I am definitely going to publish this thing myself through Ka-blam or Indy Planet. My mom and my wife want copies. LOL.
@literacysuks1 - Thanks! No problem, man. Please come by to look at the pictures anytime!
@armandoB - Thanks again!
@amanda - Interesting questions. I'm not too sure yet what happened exactly between Kyri and her master (maybe I shouldn't admit that, LOL). I have some ideas and hopefully I'll get to tell that tale soon.
@Aghammer - Thanks again! I'm also not sure if Kyri is making the right decision either. Maybe she isn't? I guess the question is more important than the answer and it's something I wish to explore further in this comic.
@Doctor Shadow - Thanks for stoppin' by again good Doctor. I appreciate it.
@plymayer - Thanks!
@harryq - Thanks, too!
Anyhow, keep on keepin' on. See you next week.

D'oh! She broke it! Never let your girlfriend operate your music system, guys!

I love the burst of energy in the 2nd to last panel - the dark, high contrast inking really conveys a bright explosion. Nice work! Do you ink on paper with a quill?

Great page. Love the use of white out (or digital white...) on the figure to the left...cool.
mattchee at 10:51PM, May 26, 2009
woah!
cyberdog at 12:56PM, May 26, 2009
Fantastic page. I have to learn how to ink like that.
khard12 at 12:48PM, May 26, 2009
Awesome page! Love the action in the first panel all the way thru the skulls in the last.
darkwaterfrey at 10:35AM, May 26, 2009
This has been a great story, and Rashomon is a wonderful source of inspiritation!
Jabali at 7:25AM, May 26, 2009
I really hope you have the time to show us how Jon lived the same event. I love it when comic characters take a life on their own. I totally know what you mean.
machinehead at 5:36PM, May 25, 2009
Wicked page! Love the last panel.

Very nice, as always. Technically, I really envy your lettering. Looks very professional. Oh, and those skulls look great :) Paint Tool SAI is a kind of barebones version of Painter, but it works great both for pencilling and inking (I use it for both, coloring in Photoshop). It has quite a bunch of nice tricks, like line smoothing, canvas rotation and instant canvas flip. It's also damn fast and very cheap. For me, it's the closest thing to working on paper. But, with a Cintiq I guess you don't need it as much. suffering suckitude! I hate when that happens :) So awesome man... love that last panel.
armandoB at 11:12AM, May 25, 2009
this is dripping with awesome-sauce
The Gravekeeper at 10:39AM, May 25, 2009
Gorgeous, gorgeous page. Can't say I've seen the movie, though. I'll keep an eye out for it, but I'll probably have to buy it just to see it since the only place to rent movies around here is Blockbuster (and they've recently replaced all the original Romero movies they had with the remakes, so that should give you an idea of their attitude toward film).
amanda at 9:58AM, May 25, 2009
Now I want to watch that movie - sounds great and makes me think of "12 Angry Men" - also very good, but not quite the same. XD
TheMidge28 at 3:53AM, May 25, 2009
I see the reflections of Rashomon. excellent movie. I think having what's happening with her pov of narration is fantastic choice by you for story telling. and bloody fantastic page as well
Doctor Shadow at 2:56AM, May 25, 2009
That's an awesome first panel, love the motion in it.
