107. How Degrading
usedbooks on Nov. 28, 2010
Bio-degradation is the process by which matter is broken down by organic materials. Plasics are generally not biodegradable. However, some kinds do photodegrade in a relatively short time (relatively short = around 90 days). We usually picture animals getting caught on plastic six-pack rings like this, so that's my inspiration. HOWEVER, I should note that the most dangerous pollution is not from plastic rings (please do cut them apart anyway) but from discarded or lost fishing gear especially from the large fishing companies. I'm not sure there's an easy enforceable solution to that problem. It's hard to convince people to collect their lost gear from conditions that would make it difficult to collect, in places where enforcement officials or the public won't see them, and under the leadership of a big company. (Big companies make it easy to shirk personal responsibility.)
Also, make sure you check out my interview!

Just so you know, Gelotology updates will be sporadic this month. I've got a lot of stuff going on and am struggling to keep updates with Used Books alone (which is my primary project).

Apparently I'm so drunk duck oriented that my 1st thought was the duck polished off his own 6-pack. *must read in addition to looking at pretty pictures*

Also, I really like the gag. Ticked off ducks are hilarious.

Yeah, big companies will pay fines because the fines are cheaper than doing things right. Instead of fines, it should just get cleaned up... and the bill the company responsible. That way, doing things right the first time is more economical
