HA #3 - Designs by Abt Nihil

Abt_Nihil on March 4, 2011

I was going to post these designs anyway - might as well post them as a filler. I'm very, very sorry for the delay – page 24 had to be reassigned. MrHades was kind enough to offer drawing the lineart, but he'd like for someone else to color his art. So, please comment here or PQ me if you'd like to be that someone!(EDIT: Nevermind - we've got a volunteer ^_^)

Some background info regarding these designs:

The two superheroes at the top who both go by the name “Kaleidoskop” are original designs by myself. My thought was that the older (male) one belonged to the first-gen German superheroes, so he'd have more of a pulp “science-hero” attire. Whereas the younger (female) one is all fresh and flashy and modern and represents a sort of German patriotism that's a rather new phenomenon - it was unleashed during the soccer world championship in 2006, to be exact, where all of a sudden, German flags were prominently displayed everywhere… which is a big deal for a country in which any form of patriotism had been demonized for sixty years. However, the only way I could make this idea work for me was to have the German national colors (black/red/gold) worn by a second-generation Turkish immigrant. She's loosely based on someone I met at university shortly before designing this character.

Peligroso, Wraith and Hecate are based on sux's original designs. My version of Peligroso is sticking very closely to an illustration by MrHades. Wraith's design took more creative input from me, although all of the basic elements can be found in sux's design already… except for the floating mouth, which is an homage to alejkhan's webcomic “Jump”. I got the idea when it became clear that alejkhan would be drawing the cover, and I thought it both fits the character, and is also a neat reference to one of my favorite comics on dd. (And Hecate was a b**** to design, but I think I've said that before ^_^)

So, the webcomic deities willing, the next page should be up soon. Thanks for your patience!
