As far as I understood the theory, the purpose of Reiki is mainly to recharge and (re)flow the (blocked) energies of the body. Reiki is not meant to generate superpowers, but to bring the body into its harmonious, flowing balance.
I bought a book about reiki as documentation for this story, but it was really vague! I do not believe in reiki in reality, though I'm using it in this story. Yes I understand that it is about the internal flow of energy, but as I understand it this is largely influenced by emotions, and yes it is not a superpower and it is supposed to be something that everyone can do, but in this comic it is something really difficult so only few people can do it, like everyone can play tennis but very few people, with a lot of talent, can be champions. So someone without the gift, in this story, could use reiki but with a lot of effort he would obtain only minimum results, so only those who are talented are selected to train in it.
