My wife and I taught self defense for fourteen years. We were active members of ASLET, did security work, and a bunch of other stuff. This page, this page right here is the heart and soul of self defense. What are your values? Do you value your life or that of your loved ones more than that of the attacker? What are the limits of protection? When does it stop being justified? If you have that right (whatever right is for you) the rest is just making you more effective. If you don't you can freeze at a critical moment, stop too soon, or cross over into something that will cause you problems later.
Kudos to you for bringing out the important issue, what they call "Answering the Question"
How should someone who has always been taught that all violence is evil and forbidden be able to judge what is ‘acceptable violence’? Especially when all parties are determined to use violence, the limit for ‘acceptable violence’ tends to skyrocket.
Acceptable violence is a function of your values, circumstances, and consequences. I have an answer for me. Figuring out yours is your job. Accepting someone else's answer uncritically is to abdicate adult responsibility on important matters

I’ve got serious concerns on the outcome of this plan…

I can't understand why.

Given how unexperienced the locals are, they're probably going to fall for all kinds of "sick prisoner" and "come look over here!" tricks, right?
marcorossi at 4:29AM, Dec. 16, 2024
"Sick prisoner" it is.
