Well, in their defence, they're not exactly morons, they just have zero knowledge and experience about this sort of thing, real or fictional.

They are not morons in the sense of having limited intelligence, they are moron in this case because they lack some basics; but I think that in most cases where a person act as a moron is for this reason, not because of limited intelligence in an abstract sense.
