I'm quite late with this page, and one of the reasons (though not the main one) is that I was pickpocketed: two days ago I went shopping at a supermarket, and when I came out I found that my car had a deflated tire.
I spent some time changing the tire and, in the meanwhile, I left my purse on the seat of the car.
While I was distracted changing the tire someone took the purse and went away.
Later I saw that another car in the parking had a deflated tire, so probably the culprit(s) cut the tires of various cars planning to use the confusion to steal money.
I didn't have much money in my purse, and I blocked my credit cards, but I lost my ID card, my smartphone, the keys of my house, my driving licence and my NHS card, plus a pair of USB keys with personal stuff and other minor cards, plus I have to buy a new tire, so the culprit cot maximum 200€ of loot, by I got around 1000€ of damage.
Meh.

Did the smartphone not provide the Carabinieri with any means of locating it?
marcorossi at 3:19PM, June 5, 2025
Maybe I had that functionality but I don't remember it, so in practice no.

Holy Moley! If that happened to me I'd be depressed for a year.

More pissed than depressed honestly.

Wow, that sucks. I hope it's easy enough to restore an ID in your country, it can be a real pain in some places. And finally a win for Mr. Distraction! Apparently, those glasses had some -20 Weapon Skill effect on them or something.

The glasses were so hideous that everybody else had a +4 at beating him. RE restoring the ID card: Yesterday I went in the morning to the Carabinieri place (equivalent to police), and they asked my ID card number to declare the teft; naturally I didn't remember so I had to go at the city hall and ask my ID number; then went back to the C. who gave me the declaration of theft, so that this morning I could go back to the city hall, where with the declaration of theft I could ask for a new ID card. With the request of the ID card I could go back to the C., who could then give me a temporary ID paper, the actual new ID card will arrive in 8-9 days. Couldn't the C. and the city hall send each other the documents via mail instead of having me go back and forth between the two offices (that are in two different places in the city and with different opening hours)? Meh.

Man, that sucks. What a colossal pain in the butt to lose your phone and house keys. Good luck 🍀

Really! the phone in particular is terrible, in this situation I perceive clearly how dependent we now are on smartphones.
