Pthomar Trouble - Page 18

So this page sort of re-enforces some of the questions we had about Matt, which will be answered later on down the line. I took a new approach from the past at the way I'm drawing the Phantom Lord… you'll notice tuesday that I quickly changed my mind. I thought about going back and changing it, but scheduling and what not convinced me otherwise (perhaps for a print version?), and I left it. Its a minor change, and I don't think it interferes with the story too much.
So anyway, this page gives you and idea of what the Phantom Lord is all about…
Heading toward the end of this chapter, so we're gonna be wrapping a couple items up, and opening up a can of worms or two to lead into Chapter 2!
I'm currently working on Chapter 2, and I must say, I think its gonna be a fun one!
Thanks for reading, everybody, and I'll see you tuesday for some Jefe/Phantom Lord intensity!

We ll see - Find out tomorrow about Jefe. Matt will be one of the "main character" Mastors that we follow. DAJB - Yeah, Just a little! Iba - We'll find out more about what got Matt in some hot water later. Like DAJB mentioned, he's overwhelmed... Equal parts excitement, fear, nervousness... that sort of thing. Jabli - You've pretty much nailed what I was going for with Matt. And excellent questions! If you go back to Page 3 in the Prelude there's some initial information about the Phantom Lord and a readers digest version of how the Mastorism Universe is set up. But since you asked, here's a little more about it... No one really knows where the Phantom Lord came from, only that he's immortal, and has been around for billions of years (maybe longer). As far as anyone knows, he's the only one of his kind in the universe, which has lead to some speculation about his origins. One of his abilities is creating the "Time/Space Envelope" which essentially allows him to travel anywhere in the Universe instantly. With this ability, over billions of years, he's campaigned to unify all the habited worlds of the universe. He's also able to bring others through the envelope with with him. Over time he discovered that certain individuals that came through with him developed unique abilities after passing through the envelope. We can see examples of this in Peter's ability to generate and manipulate force fields and Jefe's ability to control other beings. He named this sort of individual a "Mastor" and organized sort of a police force to help him maintain unity throughout. As the number of Mastors grew, it became cumbersome taking Mastors all over the universe to wherever they were needed. Relief came in the form of a Dr. Brown who developed the EnveloTuner system. EnveloTuners are those "M" symbols you see on Mastors' chests. On Aerth, a separate machine taps into a constant Envelope that the Phantom Lord generates. A dispatcher is required to operate the machine sending and pulling people back and forth through the envelope, with the Tuner acting like a beacon so that the machine can find you and pull you the correct way through the envelope. So, yes, in a way, the Phantom Lord is the lead Mastor. Is the Phantom Lord a religious figure? Not really, but his position and constant presence has made him seem so. He is rarely, if ever, questioned, and is generally regarded as wise. As far as his mask and the flame.... time will tell.... Probably more than you wanted to know, but it seemed like a good opportunity to clue people in on some of the inner workings/history of the character and Mastorism in general! Thanks for the great/inspiring question! Sloo - Yeah a similar concept. I can pretty much guarantee, though, that Matt will not become Darth Vader... (not matter how cool that would be) jazzcop - The Phantom Lord cannot see into the future, he's just got a positive outlook for Matt. You could say, with billions of years of experience under his belt, he's a decent judge of character. always1961 - The Phantom Lord is pretty much the most important guy in the universe, but his appearances will be limited and brief! That said, when we do check in with him, what he says, and the plot developments there are going to be key.

I like Matt, and I can`t wait to hear what the Phantom Lord has to say to Jeff????
jazzcop at 9:29AM, June 26, 2008
The plot continues to thicken...I forget, can the phantom lord actually SEE into the future, or is that just him saying something nice?
sloo at 8:49AM, June 26, 2008
Neat! Like obi-wan and anakin, hopefully not ending the same way. But maybe? XD

Great page. Matt is a likable character . Easy going and with a combination of smartness and naiveness. I was wondering who was the character with the "flame head" and this page gave me the answers. Phatom Lord, by the way Jefe and Matt are acting I suppoused he's the Master Mastor. Is he also a religious figure? I ask because of the fire on his head and clothing.

For a guy who keeps the universe in order, Matt seems rather scared of him. That must have been one heck of a big screw up.
DAJB at 11:14PM, June 25, 2008
Heh - Matt's rather overwhelmed, methinks!
We ll See at 10:42PM, June 25, 2008
OK--what's he going to say to Jefe ...what's in the future for Matt?
