Pthomar Trouble - Page 21

What in the U?!?!
This one slipped by and posted before I got a chance to comment on it, so here I am commenting away! I haven't replied to Thursday's comments yet, either, thats next on my to-do list (or my list of things keeping me from drawing Ch 2 Page 8).
Anyway, like I said last week, tying up some ends here… like… getting the heck off of Pthomar… but don't worry, our bi-pedal trarantulan friends will still be with us (if you've read today's page already, you know that).
Here's a tidbit for today:
There are a few ways to get around the Mastorism universe. Most typical is local travel, which would be ships and whatnot that you're probably familiar with… this would serve travel within a system, or for better ships, within a galaxy. But! For intergalactic travel, there are only two ways to go: The envelope (which is reserved for Mastors, and special cases involving the work of Mastors) and Outer Travel. Outer travel is similar to envelope travel. In fact, it was developed by Dr. Brown, inventor of the Envelo-Tuner system, and is based off of envelope principles and the technology derived from the tuners. I like to think of it as synthetic envelope travel. Very expensive, and not exactly common, but John John is a high paid merc (even if he did shirk his latest job), so its pretty standard fare for him.
Okay, well, come back Thursday for the final chilling page of Chapter 1!

Iba - Yeah, funny how that works! DAJB - One of the things I found, after I had outlined the whole story, and begun to write it, was that I had to think up all these planet and location names... Wog'Kee'Lo was one of the clunkier ones, I suppose. I base them off of something though, but mix the names up... different spelling, anagram, stuff like that. You know what? To see who reads these replies, and/or cares enough... I'll send a free copy of Issue #1 to the first person who figures out each one in this chapter (and so on for chapter two). So that's potentially a few winners there... One copy per person (so if you figure 3 out, you still only get one copy). Either e-mail (use email for non-dd link) or PQ me. Happy hunting. Jabali - Thanks! I think John John is my favorite right now, and certainly one of the most fun to write. I don't ever try to copy or correlate characters directly, but when I'm writing John John, I try to channel a Han Solo type of character. I also like writing Peter, though he isn't quite in the forefront like other characters are, his current attitude is sort of my love letter to Guy Gardner type characters.... legacyhero - Thanks! One of the things I had to figure out first and foremost, which was an issue we didn't address the first go around, is how the heck do people get around the Universe so dang fast. The envelope tied it together for me and really became a new focal point for the functioning of this universe, but I still needed a way for people like John John to get around, so I came up with outer travel. We'll find out more about the mysterious Dr. Brown within the story eventually, for now he's mostly part of the back story, only even being alluded to once so far. Sloo - Thanks! Yep, I was thinking tarantulas when I created them, though people have pointed out similarities between them and certain rat creatures. I've never done of a full comic in color, just some covers. A few reasons: I don't have enough time do full color, cheaper to print black and white, and my comics coloring skills are lacking (probably due to the fact that I hardly ever do it). If I did color it, it would look pretty much like "why bother" next to stuff like... oh... say... DARK RISING! On top of that, I do really enjoy black and white comics as much as color, having grown up reading the likes of TMNT, SCUD, JTHM, and other indies that don't happen to have acronyms for titles (heh). So, I don't have a problem with it being B/W at all (though there is a contingent of people out there that might mistake what I do for a coloring book). If Mastorism ever gets colored, it probably won't be by me. That said, by day I'm a graphic designer, and I work with color 8 hours a day.... but thats a whole different enchilada. jazzcop - Thanks! Constantly striving to get better! There's some stuff I'm really proud of coming up in Chapter 2. We ll see - Thanks for checking in! always1961 - He must think there's something going on on Wog'Kee'Lo, huh? Find out in chapter 2! Thanks for reading everybody! I appreciate it... one more page to go for chapter 1, and don't forget about my offer! Be the first to figure out the reference for planet, location, and even a couple weird character names in this chapter.... I'll send you a free copy of Issue #1! No joke! Only one issue per person. Happy hunting!

Oh, never noticed the tarantulan properties of them. My girlfriend would die if she met one. Great job on the back and white work. Ever done anything in color? this comic or not.
legacyhero at 10:00AM, July 8, 2008
Cool travel concept. Very well thought out.
Jabali at 7:38AM, July 8, 2008
Great Page! John is a character on fire he's always on the move and sometimes rude maybe because everyone around him move at a slower pace. About the Envelo-Tuner system and Outer Travel. They both could also be using different frequencies (much like radio-frequencies that are reserved for police communication in our world).
DAJB at 11:56PM, July 7, 2008
Ah, Wog'kee'lo! We'll always have Wog'kee'lo!

Well, when you feel like you're being followed one always does feel things are a bit more urgent.
