#116 The Electoral Lie
Phantom Penguin on Nov. 27, 2007
The electoral college is the system of the US presidental elections, in short it doesn't make any fucking sense. Each state is worth points depending on the amount of seats they have in the house representives plus its numbers of Senators. Meaning that California is worth the most, and Maine is worth the second least, first being Alaska. This makes it so if you win a state, say California you will get 55 points. Even if all the people in that state didn't vote for you. A perfect example of this is the Gore/Bush election were Gore won the popular vote, meaning more Americans voted for him overall, but Bush won more states, meaning he had more electoral votes, and won the election. Whereas a true democracy of the people would have just counted each persons vote, or does this bullshit system seem like a good idea to you?

As you guys know, Soldiers don’t make a lot of money. Bills pile up, and money is no where to be found. And as you know, I can't really work overtime or extra hours. So i'm reaching out to you, i'm trying to afford to buy a plane ticket home, but i'm flat broke. I reach out to the DDers so I might be able to go home over Chrismas, any amount will do, 1 cent or 1 dollar. You can find the donate button just above the comment area. If you donate any amount I will link your comic here. Thank you very much.

I don't even know why the whole state thing works. I always thought more voting people were in CA.

Electoral College makes sense. But it only makes sense from the stand point that it was created in the 1800's and your average joe was an idiot and there were only 13 states. Basically the EC was created to ensure that the common people (most who were at that time idiots, and the same can be said today) couldn't screw up an election. You would vote for a representative and that Representative would vote for the president. Times since then have changed though. Now you just vote for the president, but you still have that representative inbetween. He doesn't have to vote for your candidate, but he does for fear of shanking.

Well, Maine was only created to allow the South to keep Slavery/Free states equal. Guess a bunch of Retirees are more important than a bunch of New Englanders.

The electoral college is screwed up -- though I'm not sure raw democracy would be so much better. The electoral college is like wax lips on a turd.

Yeah. I remember the whole thing being explained to me in third grade. It didn't make sense, but I figured when I was older, it would. Nope. Makes even less sense now.
