i know, i'm a couple days late. i had company this weekend from out of town. so i didn't get to finish the inks on this page until tonight. i also worked a lot on page 11….more on that at the end of this….
this page was originally just 2 panels….on two seperate pages. one of “karen” dragging jeff on the last panel of one page, and the next page of her screaming it's dinner time. i thought it would be better to draw out the scene and give jeff's date a little more depth. it creates character growth after all….
so…the next panel in the original comic i blew up to a full page. the original design was pretty good and i wanted to give it it's deserved justice…..unfortunatly, that justice is fucking time consuming! let me ellaborate:
so, at this point we all are aware that the “original powerjeff” comics were just one page shots/jokes. i then tried to tie them together into some sort of storyline where it made some semblance of sense. afterwards, it was so fun to do, that it became its own story. if you didn't know, now you do……well, once the “joke” took on a story life of its own, my art style and attention to detail did too…..and i put a lot of time and effort into most of the panels.
the next page is case in point. a giant mutated turtle in a pit with spikes and carnage everywhere. updating the pit design was NOT fun and i hop i pull it off……after the next 6 or pages, jeff goes back to class…..and THAT is where i want a flux capacitor to go back in time and kick my own ass for drawing a series 3 pages….that will ultimately have to be broken down into 6 pages for good story pacing….that have so MANY background jokes and details.
some of this level of detail of design found in these jokes will appear in the added additions to chapter 2…..i don't know if i can say they are that prominant in chapter 3. Jason, help me out here….

Hahaha! No, it wouldn't be the biggest loss, but it would still be a loss. Sure, it was a step up art-wise from Chapter 1, but it was mostly a step-down story-wise. And I think part of the reason was that you tried to accomodate everyone's ideas, which mostly consisted of, "Put this character here, then blow him up." However, the new take on Chapter 2 is going to make the original manuscript much more valuable.

hell yeah, 10 cents a page was too much. i was on free lunch back then. i made money for sodas and little debbie snacks by break-dancing in the hallways. i had nothing to do with the reproduction of "issue 2"...now to be known as "chapter 2" but i'm glad that it happened. and i'm glad that i got a copy.....or else that chapter of powerjeff would be forever lost in time. come to think of it, that probably wouldn't be a bad thing.

10 cents a page, before so many of us had laser printers... nobody could afford that shit. It's make 15 pages or buy lunch. We used our highschool life savings to reproduce a few comics in the 93-94 schoolyear.

Chia has a wonderful personality, Bocaj. Take it from me and my bald Chia bull (who still resides in a closet somewhere). Seriously, though, experiencing this revamped, revisited (rebooted?) version is the store is a real thrill. I remember passing the old, shoddy version around to all my friends who didn't know Json, and a lot of them drew their own additions (not improvements) on the originals. I guess Json didn't believe in making copies back then. Or he was too poor to use the Xerox machine.

Sounds like me and chia would get along!!
