I totally forgot: Up until this chapter, Json had barely been in the comic in the original run, and Jeremiah the Fartmutant was a minor character. It had all mostly been a comic about Jeff, and a bunch of jokes at his expense. At this point, I've gotten so used to Jer, Json, and Jason being of equal importance as Jeff, that I sort of began to take it for granted. ... Wow, we have a lot of characters whose names start with 'J'.
For real, Jason. i didn't want to spoil shit, but it was hard to create a reason for this character to disappear for a while.
later on, things come together and it all fits, but re-writing a character's past relationships, but having it fit with what is already going on (the stuff in chapter 5 and 6) was kind of tricky. that is one of the things i tried to do by re-drawing these earlier chapters is to firmly establish the friendships and and relationships of the major characters. the first 3 chapters were based off the original comics where Jason, Json, and Jeremiah FARTMUTANT were either minor a player or nonexistant. but these 3 characters serve as the main focus of the story from this chapter on. so i had to work in some backstory to everything.
i mean, in this chapter you see FART and Json hanging out all the time....but the only time it was even established they knew each other was when FART rescued Json at the assembly....
anyway....my whole point to this ramble, that i am so tempted to hold down the backspace key and erase, is that i hope i have done a decent enough job of establishing character relationships.....and maybe their motivations and personalities. when you're writing a story like this, you just sort of assume that everyone understands the characters and their motivations. in the end, i just want people to laugh, think the story is silly, and route for jeremiah FARTMUTANT.
You nailed it right on the head, Gravekeeper. Json and I had many discussions on just HOW to send my character off on a bus when we finally decided on a mandatory foreign exchange program. In the original run of Powerjeff, my character didn't truly appear as an important character until about chapter five or six (aside from a brief and unimportant cameo in the first chapter in which he looked and acted entirely different). Json thought it a good idea to establish our characters' friendship early on so that it would be believable later on. And although I have been sent off on a bus, it's a very important bus ride that many other characters will eventually follow, in a sense.
