This may not be my favorite gag in the storyline but I wanted to try some stuff with the pictures from past strips in the thought bubbles. I know the text is kind of hard to read, but I had to size them to get them to fit.

The whole idea stemmed from a girl I used to date in college. She was an athiest, but used to observe Lent. It was more a mind over matter thing, than a religious thing. But when I first met her she gave up soda for Lent and I did not know she was not religious and just assumed she was very religious. Little did I know, that was hardly the case…

This is also the 39th strip. There have been some fillers, but 39 actual strips.

Lapsed Catholic = Grew up Catholic, no longer acts Catholic. In case you have not been paying attention, our little friend here is a bit of a flirt and possibly a lot more. I am a fan of butternut squash. Great art!

kingofsnake - I just have never drawn five fingered hands for cartoon characters. More serious art, sure. When I was a kid I couldn't fit them, now I just don't draw them. Ironically enough, I draw five toes when I put characters in sandals...at least most of the time. dracco, thanks for the well thought out response.

Last lent I gave up cartoons. Next lent I aims to give up coffee. I like your art, but your style is realistic enought that I think 5 fingered hands would be a little better looking.

I like this particular strip, it means more than it looks, maybe even more than it was meant. I mean, there's a whole story about Lent.. Made me think of it, anyway.. That Lent is a good period to make small sacrifices, to give up some things, and show to ourselves that we don't depend on things. Even though I'm Catholic, it has been a while I haven't paid that much attention to Lent... But what I said before does indeed apply to all, even not-religious people. Anyway, thought of this one as a clever strip. The art is very good, though it does me think a bit of the Yahoo-avatars... But that's not a bad thing. The characters are expressive, not too static.. The colors are well-chosen and put. The writing is good, no matter what has been said before.. Though English is not my mother tongue. Anyway, I like your strip altogether and will be checking back for updates. I think also you really deserve a 5. Keep it up!
