King of the Space Pirates

The appearance and personality of Xoddam are based on a buddy of ours who's helped us promote the comic, so we decided to reward him with a cameo.
Originally, his cameo was going to be really brief. Perhaps a panel or two and a line of dialogue. However, as I wrote this page, his character evolved in my head into a former lover of Ket’s, and I ended up having too much fun with the banter between them.
We've actually added an option to our Patreon to reward our biggest supporters with a cameo in the comic.

@PaulEberhardt: Just to clarify, Xoddam wasn't based on Sean Connery in Zardox (that'd be breaking our rule of only referencing media from the '80s, as Zardoz came out in '74). Xoddam was based on our buddy Maddox, who some of you might be familiar with. He's mostly known for "The Best Page in the Universe" (http://maddox.xmission.com/) and his book "The Alphabet of Manliness." Jessica's done some art for him in the past, and he's introduced a lot of his fans to our comic, so this cameo was our way of saying thanks. It's probably too good of a cameo, to be honest, but my writing got carried away. (Weird that I can't seem to make new paragraphs in these comments.) As for emulating '80s movie dialogue, it probably comes naturally to me since that's pretty much all Jessica and I watch. Seriously, we're incredibly out of touch with the zeitgeist.

Heh! I knew Xoddam reminded me of someone but I couldn't put my finger on who. I reckon Sean Connery needed a LOT of Single Malt to get over this, looking as if he'd just walked out of the Blue Oyster Bar in Police Academy. This said, you did a damn great job at emulating the style of 80s movie dialogues. Again, I don't know exaclty how or why, but it works like a charm.

@KimLuster: Jessica (the artist) showed me Zardoz the first time I ever hung out with her. So I knew she was a keeper. I'll have to look up that Vartox parody. And thanks for the compliment on the dialogue.

Very clever dialogue!! The way Xoddam talks reminds me of Vartox from Powergirl comics (google him for a good laugh), and of course Vartox is a parody of Zardoz (A movie-role Sean Connery probably would like to forget) - google some images of that for an even bigger laugh!! Art is stellar, as always!!

Lol for the last panel - great way of concluding that dialogue. As for the pink lady: as long as they're the only thing she's got as an extra I guess it's fine. ;)

@El Cid: Maybe she is. Maybe she's not a four-titted alien, maybe she's an alien that constantly hops like some kind of pink Cthulhu babe that drank too much gummy bear juice. Probably not though.

The pink lady's boobs make me dizzy. It looks like she's jumping.

It's space fashion, man. Space fashion rules.

And the human girl's chest piece, a type of minimalist future bra? Lifts and separates with no lines?

Too back Xoddam's headpiece isn't also a trash compactor. Find the right button and *squish *
