Mistress Reah appears for the first time since page 47. Even Glorreaka needs an assistant. Kulland, a talented soldier was promised a title if he helped Bridnea get the throne. Bridnea IV was impatient for Bridnea III to die. Gangrene from advanced diabetes just wasn't fast enough. Bridnea IV had an older brother who died in adolescence. If you think the child Bridnea poisoned him – such an innocent child? No, it was his mother. Bridnea IV was mom's favorite. Where's she? Locked in a castle. She's quite comfortable and gets anything she wants but can't leave. Don't want mom to get hurt. And Bridnea the ever dutiful and faithful son visits often. Well at least until he got married. It was her suggestion and he hasn't forgiven mom yet. This might be mentioned or it might not. It's among those details in the character background that really doesn't matter to the story so it isn't mentioned.
I'd ride with her! I'm liking the frankness of how they communicate. I could probably get along with these fellows; might even give their 'Dark Gods' a whirl while I'm at it. Bet my lotto chances would improve!
Hey we down wid dem dark gods!! It's all about the self-interest!! Never quite been able to wrap my head around people purposefully worshipping 'dark' deities, but... that has happened in our world (look up Moloch worship - soul killing stuff....)
@El Cid : "dark God" was meant to be a disparaging remark as the deity is indeed shrouded in darkness and often unnamed and even unknowable. But here the term has been adopted by the worshippers as a symbol of pride.
I think a lot of the Greco-Roman mystery cults would have had a lot of similarities to the 'dark gods' we see here and in some other fantasy stories. They probably wouldn't call them 'dark gods,' though; that's just poor public relations!
In this case the dark ones acknowledge human selfishness and desire for self advancement at the expense if others as opposed to the light deities who demand strict adherence to arbitrary moral codes. Some dark gods encourage immorality so it appeals to sociopaths.

If a profitable opportunity presents itself a definite maybe. But Bridnea is more generous to his faithful followers than others such as Big Henry.

Worship of Lucifer the light bringer is adoration of the darkness of Satan to another.
