Okay, first of all... WOW.
I think it is safe to say that you have completely knocked my socks off.
I am not, by any means, the type of person who is interested in noir. I have never given murder mysteries, crime stories or anything of that sort a second glance. (Although I did begin to connect myself to Sherlock Holmes' Hound of the Baskervilles when I had to study the opening chapters back when I was 15.)And yet, there is something about this comic that has me absolutely hooked!
It may partially be due to the fact I am a lover of all things Victorian, and this is the first comic I have seen that so purely captures that era.
DeeMan- Your characters, their backgrounds, and the way in which you have written them is incredible. They are so well-detailed and cemented, they are almost real. I'm absolutely astounded.
Monique- Your art has to be some of the best and most beautiful art I have ever seen. And I must say (you probably hear this a lot)- I am SO incredibly jealous. As a Gothic Fiction webcomic author, your style has the exact look I wish I could do for my comics. Your attention to detail is breathtaking, and your art style is fantastic-the characters look lifelike and suit their profiles exactly!
(What a good idea, too, to put such extensive profiles at the beginning-not just for us, but for you, too, if you need to take a step back and get re-involved with your characters.)
Okay, I sound like I'm gushing so I'll stop before I completely embarrass myself. I just like to give good artists (both of the drawing and scripting kinds) credit where it's due. The two of you make a great team, please keep it up!
Btw... when are updates? :)
I've already "fived" this page but I thought I'd stop by again to say congrats on the feature! Well deserved!
Also just read that review you linked to. It never ceases to amaze me how many people believe that simply having access to the web somehow gives them the right to hurl personal abuse at others. In doing so they only reveal the depths of their own ignorance and ill manners ... And, in this case, their complete lack of any appreciation of just what makes a good comic and any understanding of how to write a review.
I'm sure you've already written off that particular rant as something best ignored. With any luck it might actually drive more traffic to your comic in which case I'm sure most of those visitors will quickly become fans and wonder what on Earth inspired such an unwarranted tirade in the first place.
I, for one, am still enjoying this and - apparently - so do the DD Mods who gave it the feature. Keep it coming!
Dear Monique,
Lord Aston learned of the aslum escape and knew he would be a target. Why didn't he take steps to protect himself? Because he was guilty of something?
Congrats on your feature!
