Chapter Two
KimLuster on Jan. 16, 2018
Arriving in Gatlan-Bar!
I've seen renderings of fantasy cities, vistas, forest dwellings, etc, that were absolutely breathtaking, and I tried my best to capture some of that magic. I'm very dissatisfied with the results, but maybe you'll like it more than I do (hey, it's happened before to my surprise…)
In the Godstrain, every chapter (save the last) was an even 24 pages, for this story I'm going by feel :)
Life and Good Dreams!!

Such a gorgeous chapter cover! Looking forward to where the story will take us :3!

I can see why you feel unsure of yourself. We're always led by the image we see in our mind's eye which somehow seems to work so amazingly, and yet doesn't go down on a 2D surface as easily as we expected. It's a huge scene to capture in a single unmoving panel but I got the effect as soon as I opened the page so yes, it works and works well. My only critique with the page is that the foreground characters rather seem to blend into the background a bit too easily. If they were more defined by being bolder and darker than the scenery I do feel it would have given the panel extra depth. Just something to think about for the future though as it's still a really dreamy piece of art!

Hey Sky, I back-read all your comments!! Thanks so much!! Yeah, if you note the reply to El Cid's comment below, blending foreground with background is an established weakness of mine haha! Sometimes I just don't distinguish them well enough (hey maybe all my characters have chameleon abilities...!!)

Yeah, they don't have things that go 'klee!' in the trees... yet! :D
fallopiancrusader at 9:40AM, Jan. 16, 2018
I hope we get to see a lot more of that tree city in detail. I wouldn't mind commuting to work via zip-line! XD

We're gonna be in Gatlan-Bar for a while, so... sure!! :D

Spectacular. Reminds me of the great watercolors Tolkien did for his vistas.

Wow! High Praise! I don't see it but I'm not gonna turn down a compliment!! :)

Thanks Jerrie!

It's a fantastic design! I think because it has so much detail in it, but the color seems to leave those blank buffer zones near the linework, it makes the picture appear more "busy" than it actually is. I'm not a watercolor expert, so I don't know what you do for that. It still looks really good, and such a cool concept! Looks like it's a lot more fun coming down from that tree-opolis than it is going up!
KimLuster at 8:09AM, Jan. 16, 2018
Thank You! Yeah, I'm no master either - not a picture goes by where I don't learn a new thing... One thing I have trouble with is blending backgrounds with foregrounds, where both standout, not looking all mushed together. And I do Pen and Watercolor, not just watercolor, and I noted that often the pen outlines would get lost, so I got to making those 'blank buffers' to better see those, but those present their own problems... It never ends haha

Wondrous. Booking a holiday through Tripago now. It will be nice to relax all cut off from cell phones and the interwebs.
KimLuster at 8:06AM, Jan. 16, 2018
Ha, seeing this pic made you want to go to Tripago!! (joking... joking...)!
