Nice description and exchange! Frankly, I appreciate brief fight sequences, especially in prose. Long ones are tedious. (The worst is in the book The Princess Bride. Ugh. Most tedious sword fight in all of literary history.)
This photo reminded me a little bit of the sembuls in this comic https://beautifulbizarre-net.exactdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Aline_Brant_beautifulbizarre010.jpg?strip=all&ssl=1
And THAT is what I was going for!! Some (like Rhiaan) have fairly simple sembul patterns - others can get quite elaborate, and I imagine some look exactly like this!! Thanks for sharing this!!
Dunno a full page of prose like that could end up as six comic pages easily. :) Which in web comics is about a couple of months real posting time. :D I am certain to the combatants the fight lasted a year and a day and to the spectators it was over in the blink of an eye.
Yeah, I went into this knowing that this format was going to be more 'wordy' and less picturey than most webcomics (and I got pretty dang wordy with the Godstrain), and knowing that some readers might not take to it all that well (I pretty much don't expect the same amount of readership I got with the Godstrain...), but I do feel much more comfortable with this as, as you point out, I can get more meat of the story out quicker.

Ouch! Whack to the shin!
El Cid at 9:47AM, Feb. 13, 2018
He had to dig into his bag of tricks to win this one!
KimLuster at 10:24AM, Feb. 13, 2018
That he did!!

Size doesn't matter when it comes to great combat! The smaller ones are usually quicker to move anyway! You get'em girl!
KimLuster at 4:51AM, Feb. 13, 2018
True, but per their agreed conditions (first kill stroke is the victor), he's won... or has he?! }:)

The movie is better. It cuts all the long, tedious parts. XD
KimLuster at 4:47AM, Feb. 13, 2018
That's funny! I haven't read the book, but absolutely love the movie (even have a several page homage to it in the Godstrain)!
Jason Moon at 4:36PM, Feb. 12, 2018
Good match. She held her own even know he is twice her size, and no powers needed either
KimLuster at 4:48AM, Feb. 13, 2018
Thanks! Yeah, she probably made him think twice about calling out the girls for a sparring match!!

I'm still suspecting that Rhiann lost deliberately so that Halmar (and Rhiann) can collect the "reward" xD
KimLuster at 9:07AM, Feb. 12, 2018
Gettin' laid wins out over losing, eh?! S'pose we'll find out eventually!! ;)

That's why I've learned to never be confident!! :D
