Good on them to reject all that high technology stuff! Technology can be both a blessing and a bane at times, living off of the land and utilizing everything that planet has to offer is the environmentally responsible thing to do!

The sembul bonding ceremony, looks like she's planting a parasite onto the poor child. But then I guess it's also sort of weird that we give ourselves diseases so we don't get sick (vaccinations).

Yeah, while aspects of a 'sembul' symbiote might be kind of appealing, I also want it to be a little disturbing too... It ain't our culture!

I imagine it's not all that comfortable, and probably feels invasive, but then, it feels the same when you take babies for their 3-month checkups in RL!!

The wording of that ritual says so much! It hints at a society that no longer trusts mechanical technology, and opts instead for organic technology. Very deep stuff.

There's being the center of attention and being a fool and a wastrel and there's being the center of attention and getting everything you want. Sure the world may not revolve around you, but you can so manipulate the world where everyone else comes to think it does.

Yup, and you can move from one to the other... And then, that weird thing, where you learn humility and then arise to greatness, ironically becoming the center, but it no longer matters... gaaaah
