Ch. 2 - Pg. 30

I once read a hard sci-fi novel by Jack McDevitt called The Engines of God. In the far future, Earth has developed interstellar travel, and has found evidence of previous galactic civilizations, but it seems they'd all been destroyed. They eventually come to realize that a ‘galactic force’, a cloud, was moving around the galaxy, destroying ‘unnatural, created’ things… What did it consider ‘unnatural’? When it came across things made with right-angles!
Now, right-angles can occur naturally (mostly certain crystals), but it's pretty rare, esp. on a large scale. Anyway, I found the notion fascinating enough for it to bleed over into this story… Clearly, some of the folk believe right-angles invite disaster! Why is that…?! *drums*
So, I have two paragraphs in this page that I intended to simulate very fast trading conversations. Did how I do it work out? Were you able to grasp it and follow it?

I wonder what they'd think if they found a fighter jet?

It's like some kind of impressionist metal sculpture of a femur! It's priceless!

It's a 3D hieroglyph!

It is understandable that right angles - or anything that might represent a dead or destroyed culture could be considered evil or unhealthy. Folks don't want to make the same mistakes. Even by accident.

Very very true!

Objects from long ago are always interesting. Wonder how many of them we misunderstand when archaeologists find them.

Look up Baghdad Batteries!!

I have seen sailors work their way through teeming throngs before. Not pretty.

I have visual images of that now!

Hmmm...or maybe the 'Threads of reality' can be manipulated by certain character(s) to travel to other places and bring back souvenirs - lots of possibilities!
KimLuster at 7:57PM, Feb. 27, 2018
It things go as planned... wait! Already said that!! But I like the way you're thinking!!

I wonder if it's a far-future Earth, too - certain items like that wrench survived to be discovered here and there. It could be another dimensional plane or something - not sure if or when we're gonna learn about that, but this is a neat little moment, anyway!
KimLuster at 7:56PM, Feb. 27, 2018
If things go as planned, the 'true' nature of this world will be much clearer, but... with the plans I have, that's a pretty good ways off!

I think it worked well :)
KimLuster at 2:04PM, Feb. 27, 2018
Whew! Thanks!

Hahaha! A wrench! How interesting! My the world has changed, this is making me think this is a far future earth
KimLuster at 2:05PM, Feb. 27, 2018

Believe it or not, Rhone, we used to buy big cases full of those little deals, all different sizes! Finally caught up again - wow! It continues to fascinate. I was imagining a story where Rhiann was under the thumb of her two superior co-wives or something. Not that we would have wanted that for our heroine! Can't wait to see where this goes next! This seems like a perfect use of the illustrated novel, with the text providing the setup and the picture showing the anachronistic wrench.

Ha, I did a U-turn at 'Cinderella'! I'm glad those aspects of an illustrated novel come through. As with a regular comic, let the art do the talking where possible!
