A highly subjective attempt to sum up the higher education system of the early 00's in one page. Thousands of stoners, wasters, dreamers, screamers, inbetweeners and leftward leaners from the entire spectrum of middle income backgrounds plus a few poor kids (who got in on something alien to me, known as ‘merit’) all piled into the Universities, largely regardless of the subject or indeed career path they chose simply because it was the thing you were supposed to do. All the way through school we were pushed into higher education as a sort of general solution to life only to emerge three years later with a few more bad habits, a job in the hospitality industry and a nagging sense that we hadn't actually earned or indeed done anything worthwhile at all. Apologies to anyone who recently passed their PHD with triple honors (or something) and proceeded to end world poverty through applied mindfulness while simultaneously curing cancer in your lunchbreak. Please write all correspondence on a stamped, addressed broom handle and stick it up your arse.

It's good to see public education is as useless in other countries as it is here.

Well, now they are forced to do more in higher education, but the result remains the same, as does their reason to walk that path. Everything the same but people, being people, got better at covering it up instead of trying to address the actual problems underneath. Great take on that matter!

Ah, the riddle of the ages. If only I had known then what I know now.
